A shoot with the Assembly Hall Calendar Girls!

Have you seen the film Calendar Girls? I’m sure you have, or if not, you’ve heard of it and know the story. Ladies from the WI do a naked calendar, there’s a fair bit of flesh showing and a LOT of feel-good factor. It’s a brilliant story that celebrates women and is one of my favourites.

My passion is photographing women and uncovering their inner goddess, so I was delighted when Cheri from The Assembly Hall Theatre in Tunbridge Wells got in touch with an idea. The theatre production of Calendar Girls is coming to Tunbridge Wells and Cheri and her colleagues decided they wanted to raise money for Hospice in the Weald. Surely you can guess what Cheri’s idea was… a photoshoot in the Calendar Girls style! Genius.

Lady-M-presents-1

I met with all the ladies from the theatre and chatted to them about the kind of images they wanted to create. Over a glass of wine, I gave them a little pep talk and explained what they could expect. Some were very nervous, but they were all excited about the shoot.

We discussed poses and placement, how they’d stand in the shots and the props they’d need. I told them how to prepare for a naked shoot – a good night’s sleep, no alcohol or pizza the night before and a lot of courage on the day.

Sure enough, on the day of the shoot each lady had chosen a completely unique style that embodied her personality. The group ranged in shape and size but all had bits they loved and bits they weren’t so keen on. Some were more camera shy than others, but we had a great laugh together and everyone gave me glam when it came to their turn.

As a woman, I understand the worries these lovely ladies had, which makes it easier for me to reassure them. By showing them how to pose to flatter their individual shapes and highlight their best assets, their confidence grew and we got some amazing images.

It was a fantastic day full of laughter, and it was fab to work with such lovely ladies. You can see some behind the scenes shots here, but to see the final images make sure you buy a copy of the Calendar – on sale at the Theatre from 22 October…
