Andrea Moore – New Zealand Fashion Week 2013
Although Autumn/Winter collections are traditionally dark, we already saw at London Fashion Week the breath of colour that can also be sported this season. New Zealand designer Andrea Moore is known for impeccably tailored fashion, bold colour palettes and custom-designed prints with a confident point of view. She designs to “bring out the inner confidence in women with an aesthetic and craft that are uncompromising on colour, tailoring and fit”.
The collection was well put together and though its clear that Andrea designs for the 28+ demographic there was a lot of youthfulness in the collection also. We had a kaleidoscope of colours in her palette. The collection named “Northern Lights”, was inspired by a Scandinavian tale of snow, moose hunts, swans and yachts. The swan print was seen on knitwear, to silk trousers, beautiful dresses and blouses.
The first look down the runway was a sumptuous royal blue cape. Oh my, I must have one! Teamed with a coral pink high buttoned blouse and coral and navy striped jacquard shorts it was a playful look for an autumnal day.
What I loved from the collection were the two tone jacquard shift dresses. As the models moved down the runway it appeared to be a beautiful blue jacquard print dress, but on the return journey you could see a separate colour thread that worked perfectly.
Andrea is not afraid to colour block together; colour on colour – hot pink top and trousers styled with a royal blue jacket. A navy quilted skater dress teamed with a neon yellow belt. A white silk jumper with black sleeves, teamed with a neon yellow chiffon skirt, big tick. Plus the citrus yellow cape jacket in felt. Simply stunning.
It’s all about mixing your colour palette in a confident way. Andrea Moore wants to show the modern woman not to be afraid of colour and how to style it well. Her collection for winter is anything but dark. Choose your colour from the colouring in tin of a collection. Paint your style this season.
