BBQ at Tunbridge Wells Bar & Grill
On Wednesday 30th October I was invited to a local event, in Tunbridge Wells that really intrigued me. Entitled “The Wait is Over”, I kept on reading the email and was delighted to see that the BBQ was not packed away for winter. As the event in question was the exclusive preview and private VIP launch of the year round alfresco dining at The Tunbridge Wells Bar & Grill.
As part of the Individual Restaurants group, The Tunbridge Wells Bar & Grill offers a relaxed atmosphere but seriously good dining in the old High Street area of the prestigious town. This was the first opportunity to see and experience a brand new outdoor dining experience for the town.
The Bar & Grill revealed to a select audience their complete refit of their outdoor area which is now suitable for year round dining. Think retractable roof, heat lamps and blankets for winter so you can celebrate the festive season under the stars whilst still being warm. In the summer it’s going to be great, and if it rains, who cares! You can still be outside even when the great British weather is trying to put a dampener on things.
We had some excellent cocktails to sample; I loved the “Dark & Stormy” black seal rum & fresh lime topped with ginger beer in a glass jar, yum and the prosecco slipped down nicely. We perched ourselves in the corner of the outside area on a comfy bench so we could survey the scene unfolding as the great and the good of Tunbridge Wells tested out the delightful array of beverages on offer. Then along came the handsome waiting staff with some of the tastiest canapés we have had in some time.
Miniature halloumi burgers and the yummiest scallops with a little kick to them. There is a great fish and meat bar to browse as you make your selection from the menu and with the BBQ right in front of you; you can see your food being cooked if you so wish.
Meat is a speciality, well it is a bar and GRILL after all. The charcoal burning grill and clay oven help create the most amazing dishes. Pulled pork (yum!), rib-eye steak (superb), hickory smoked beef (beautiful). You don’t have to be a meat eater to enjoy the menu either; there are some fantastic seafood and vegetarian options as well.
