BMW New Generation Winner at NZFW- Crooked Seven
Day three of New Zealand Fashion Week and we’re back at the Westpac Shed. This time for the BMW New Generation Show. Featuring Beverley Riverina, Nara Paz and Crooked Seven.
Crooked Seven designer Alexis Komene was announced the winner of the $5000 cheque from BMW to set her label on its way in the world of fashion. Her collection, “Only by the night” for autumn/winter 2014 was spectacularly beautiful. Twelve looks enchanting and inspiring taking the notion of fluidity and focus from the world of BMW.
Crooked Seven designer Alexis based in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand graduated in 2009. Her signature style of “loose fitting cuts, tailored edge, natural confidence and sexy femininity” was marked as “immediately apparent” in her first S/S 12/13 collection. The label is now stocked in ten stores across New Zealand and Australia but this competition has allowed Alexis to step up to the next level.
The collection we saw was just divine. Taking my favourite colour of Autumn/Winter, Cobalt blue; teaming with black and with a beautiful almost traditional bone china white and pale blue print – known as the Popham Print. Then came my next favourite colour, Coral. A perfect mix and the perfect tone to liven up what can be a dull season. Add a beautifully cut Sky Dress in black and the collection is a winner.
The black and cobalt blue block print from Crooked Seven was also beautiful. Stunning in a Bowie day dress but also in the Heidi Skirt teamed with a sheet long sleeved cobalt Nick top.
