Christmas Shopping | the concept of the “extra gift”
So payday has happened, the mad dash around town on Saturday, the browsing online on Sunday. How’s your Christmas shopping going?
Last year during my ten week stint as Fashion Correspondent for BBC Radio Kent, we discussed Christmas shopping and I remembered something someone told me a long time ago. Always have an “extra gift” in your christmas present stash. Just in case your long lost Aunt arrives for a mince pie on Christmas Day or your cousin returns from her trip around the world, or you realise your future Brother-in-law has left a present for you under the Christmas tree and you haven’t left him one.
So you don’t need to spend a fortune, but emergency presents need to be flexible by gender. Make sure you wrap the present in red or blue paper according to gender so you don’t give the wrong gift away.
Here are four top ideas to help you on your Christmas shopping way.
Perfume
You can’t go wrong with perfume. So long as its a delicate fragrance, not too masculine, not too feminine and likely to please all. I love Prada’s Amber Eau de Parfum. It’s subtle and feminine with a combination of sandalwood oil from India, patchouli leaves from Indonesia, labdanum resin from France and benzoin from Thailand giving the wearing a taste of air from around the world.
Normally Prada’s Amber retails at around £54-£66, but from TK Maxx’s Christmas Gift Department for her it’s just £49.99 for an eau du parfum spray and body lotion. Luxury at reduced rates – perfect!
Crumpled City Map
If you’ve got a traveller in the family, the Crumpled City Map collection is a great idea. Crumple up this City Map and stick it in your pocket, go back to the old school method and forget Google Maps.
Sometimes it’s nice to have an actual paper map but this one you don’t have to fold away all nicely just crumple it up and away you go. Only £10.95 from Bloomsburystore.com
Bananagrams
Christmas time is often a time for “parlour games” and the occasional round of Trivial Pursuit but a new game I’ve been introduced to is Bananagrams. It’s totally addictive fun.
Perfect for a fun loving, competitive relative whatever their age. Bananagrams is a word game without the need for a board, pencil or paper, the perfect gift for crossword and word game lovers and only £11.75 from Amazon.
Horse Print Scarf
You can’t go wrong with a printed scarf, whether it’s for young or old, mother, daughter or sister. This Horse Print Scarf in white and dark grey by Scarlett Black available at Cuckooland.com for £20.
Perfect to stash in your present box and if no one needs that “extra gift” then you can keep it for yourself!
