COOP by Trelise Cooper – New Zealand Fashion Week 2013
One of my favourite heritage designers of New Zealand fashion, Trelise Cooper will be showing three core fashion labels at Fashion Week. Trelise Cooper – high end glamour; diffusion range Cooper – effortless luxe; and COOP – nonchalant sophistication for the ‘look at me’ girl about town.
COOP was the second show at NZFW day one. As I took my front row seat opposite the fashion week founder Dame Pieter Stewart it was an almost packed house for what is always a fun, edgy show.
For Winter 2014, COOP brings out “all the idiosyncrasies is all of us”. There were socks with heels, brights clashing against each other, lacquered plastic mixed with angora. Labelled as “style with a sense of humour”, it was certainly fun. A twenty first century version of Holly Golightly. Why not team a cropped bright fluffy jacket with holographic lurex shorts?
COOP is a youthful brand and the mixed colour palette for A/W showed this off. Candy pink, mixed with burnt orange, grass greens with petrol blues, blacks with metallics. My favourite looks of the collection was outfit two; a quilted pink floral print biker jacket with matching cigarette pants; if only I was tall enough to pull off the complete look!
Plus darling angora sweaters in baby blue and white with embossed butterfly taking centre stage. Team colour block sweaters with bold print cropped trousers and high necked print dresses are the order of the day.
Skirt lengths were all about the skater and let’s hope it’s a warm winter with sparkly shorts in a range of metallics. The mix of textures in this collection shows a respect for the technology of the fabrics and directional designs to produce a fresh and innovative collection.
The aim of this collection is to bring “much needed sparkle to the darkest of winter days” and it certainly does that!
