Loud and proud: DFS sofa makes a splash at London Fashion Week

As one of the highest profile fashion events in the world, London Fashion Week never fails to cause a stir. The world’s media are on tenterhooks to find out the hottest trends for next season and over 5,000 visitors wait in anticipation to place orders for the next big thing.

The most established, and up and coming designers, come up with even more exciting and outrageous work than ever and this year one designer has gone a step further by turning his hand to fashion-forward furniture design.

Celebrating over 44 years of British furniture manufacturing, British fashion designer, Giles Deacon has teamed up with DFS Sofas to create a bold focal point for the living room. His ‘Lipgloss’ sofa and footstool feature a street-art style design and are covered in lips.

The colour scheme is mostly monochrome, with splashes of orange, making it suitable for almost any living room looking for a loud and modern facelift. The sofas are handmade in Britain and come with a certificate of authenticity, signed by Deacon himself.

Although London Fashion Week may be over, the proud owners of the limited edition sofa won’t forget Deacon’s S/S ‘14 show in a hurry! The Lipgloss collection mirrors the lip motif designs we saw in his catwalk show. They featured brightly coloured mouths in shades of pink and purple as opposed to the bold and vibrant orange found on his sofa.

And although this was Deacon’s first brush with furniture design, he seems to have taken to it like a natural. He likened the DFS workshop to his own atelier, with a fantastic range of fabrics and materials, and was able to take control of his sofa design from the outset.

From dressing A-List celebrities to armrests, the transition appears to be flawless.

DFS aim to incorporate stylish design as much as possible, perhaps fuelling this partnership with one of the world’s leading fashion designers.

Giles has had numerous accolades, including Elle’s ‘Best New Designer’ in 2005 and ‘British Designer of the Year’ in the 2006 British Fashion Awards, and is known for his playful designs.
