Fitness Friday – Burn Fat, Shred Pounds
The latest fitness craze sweeping the nation is HIIT. For the first in our Fitness Friday series our personal trainer Simon Thorne of Thorne Fitness tells us all about HIIT, high intensity interval training.
So how does HIIT work?
The idea it to do high levels of very intense exercise for example sprinting on the spot, and this is broken up with very low intensity exercise for example walking on spot. Most intervals of high intensity last for approximately 20 seconds and the rest time approximately 10 seconds.
HIIT sessions normally last no more than 30 minutes compared to many more moderate paced workouts that last for 60 minutes or more. This has been proven to massively out strip the gains made by longer moderate training! So it does not take much to understand why this is becoming so popular!
These are pictures of the first 3 exercises in a suggested HIIT routine. All exercises should be done for 20 seconds with 10 seconds between each for recovery. Repeat three times.
HIIT why does it work?
The main reason that HIIT seams work, is all about metabolic rate or RMR. This is your resting metabolic rate. HIIT increases the resting metabolic rate of the body and means that you will be burning more calories while at rest than normal!
So if your looking to boost you fat burning potential and feel amazing try HIIT next time you hit the gym!
