With Mother’s Day looming (Sunday March 30th in the UK) and presents always being a challenge when this is the 31st mothers day for my lovely mum. Sometimes an alternative is needed to flowers, chocolates and unique hand crafted gifts that she normally ends up receiving.

Hush | Mother’s Day Gift Challenge

So when the lovely creative team at Hush asked me to solve my gift dilemma with their Mother’s Day Gift Challenge, I accepted and immediately checked out their SS14 daywear range! Hush are a clothing brand aimed at “women of all ages who like fashion but are not a slave to it, who want to look good but don’t spend ages doing so” – perfect for me and my mother!

For SS14 Hush really have hit the colour palette in a soft, sorbet hues kind of way but it is just perfect. Their offering is sumptuous and delicate yet packs a style punch. So my challenge is to style an outfit for my mother who is in her sixties and for myself, in my thirties from their SS14 Daywear range. Let the fun begin!

Mrs LadyM’s Outfit

I avoided black completely as I don’t think I’ve ever seen my mum in black, apart from trousers when being smart. She loves pink hues, purple tones, dreamy blues and a touch of emerald green occasionally. But usually it’s pink, not in a really girly girl way, but just because she loves it!

We’d both love the maxi dresses that Hush have in their SS14 daywear collection. But alas we are only small Montague-Ebbs’ women. Both under 5ft 5 inches. I do have one maxi dress in my wardrobe, but I often have to hitch it up when walking – it’s more of an evening dress. So as much as I love the mosaic patterns and stripes for Spring at Hush, we’re passing on the maxi dress trend!

For Mum I think she’d look stunning in the Textured Dress in Teal. There is a pink version but this is a nice, different look for her. The style of the dress, is almost tshirt style and I think the cut would really suit her curves. The capped shoulders are great as I know she’s not a fan of thin straps or a fiddly neckline. The texture detailing is something really different too and I know her “ladies who lunch” crowd would be wowed by this.

Now my mum really is a bit of a stylish lady. She already has a printed moto jacket she could wear with this to glam it up. Side zips, check, textured, check – she’s got it all sussed out. So that would look fab, just like the Hush shot above. But I know she likes to mix her colours up and she is the Queen of “layering up” so I have teamed this look with a soft pink knit to get her through the British Summer climate! So the Linen V Neck Jumper in lilac is just perfect.

Mum also loves a printed scarf, something that I am really starting to pick up too. So I know she would accessorise fabulously with this Camo Print scarf in a teal camouflage print.

LadyM’s Outfit

For my outfit I wanted to compliment the colours I chose for my mums. This season I am loving coral pink and complimenting it with grey marl. I’m obsessed with a blazer jacket worn over a loose tea shirt top and teamed with a tight fit skinny jean or ankle skimming trouser. So this Jersey Blazer from Hush fits the bill perfectly.

My trouser of choice are the luxuriously soft and stylish Cargo Trousers in washed grey, giving me quite a neutral palette for Spring. Word of warning, I’ve heard these trousers come up big, so size down if you’re going to be purchasing them.

So this is quite a grey outfit, so a pop of pink as my hot colour is needed to make sure I don’t look too washed out. This Classic Silk Shirt in Spice certainly adds that touch of colour I was after. Rolling up the sleeves means I can team it with my grey marl blazer and it’s relaxed yet a smart look for SS14.
