International Personal Trainer Aimee Stevens: FIT 2012 Week 10
So, I’ve made it. Ten weeks ago I set myself the task of hitting The Gym twice a week with Aimee Stevens, International Personal Trainer and getting toned up, clued up on nutrition and get my running “mojo” back.
FIT 2012: My goals
My goals during this ten week focus on my fitness is to up my running game;
- To reduce my running times for 5k and 10k’s and maybe get that elusive PB.
- To tone up my arms, stomach and legs
- To get that running mojo back so I can get pounding the streets
- To be stronger
So how have I done? Well it’s been a challenge but I’ve loved every minute of it. Well every minute in the gym for sure, every minute concentrating on maxing out my protein intake, reducing my carb intake and cutting out sugar from my coffee? Maybe not so much the latter, but even so it has been worth it.
Aimee Stevens – International Personal Trainer
Aimee Stevens is an amazing personal trainer based in Tunbridge Wells. She specialises in strength and resistance and more importantly makes it fun even when she’s making you work hard.
Aimee is a registered biosignature practioner, holds credentials from top UK universities, further certification from the Australian Performance Training Institute, and has worldwide experience of training clients across 3 continents. Aimees’ lively personality, energy, and genuine excitement and love of training led her to be a top trainer at the largest health chain in New Zealand. This is how I got to know of her, my twitter fashion buddy @pradajunky was trained by Aimee in Wellington, New Zealand. When Aimee moved to Kent – she was recommended to me and now she is working out of The Gym in Tunbridge Wells, it was a perfect time to get training.
10 Weeks to get Fit for 2012
With a ten week programme ahead of me, I was ready to really focus on seeing what my body could do, how I could tone it up and was ready to learn a thing or two. After my Biosignature Testing Aimee gave me a high protein diet to follow and it meant I went from having Weetabix and Bran Flakes for breakfast to chicken and nuts or scrambled eggs. My work colleagues have had to get used to my crazy diet and protein shakes instead of chocolate treats. With a starting body fat percentage of 19.5% I was ready to see how I could tone up, gain lean muscle and reduce that percentage.
I’ve been doing strength training I never thought I would do but I’ve loved every minute of it. The prowler? No problem, 16kg Kettle Bells? Yes please. The great thing about having a personal trainer is the push you get, you can do those two extra crunches, lift 3 more kilos or run that extra sprint session. It’s all about mind over matter and sometimes you just need a bit of encouragement. Pushed beyond where I think I need to stop – she motivates me to keep control, learn techniques and be a better athlete in the making.
Highlights
- Getting a sub 50 minute 10k at the Bupa London 10,000 Run
- Deadlifting 57.5kg, then 75kg then a whopping 77.5kg!
- Learning how to use some really fun, crazy machines at The Gym
- Pulling a sled of 40kg and feeling like I’m in gladiators!
- Cutting 53 seconds off my PB for a 3.4km run around my village
- Reducing my body fat from 19.5% to 15.4%
The Evidence
So this is pretty scary to put online but here is the photographic evidence of before and after and the stats – I’m a pretty small thing as it is a size 10 and 5’4” so for me this wasn’t about losing weight but toning up and getting stronger.
Having lost 2.5kg of body fat I also cut 1.3 inches from my hips, half an inch from my waist and 1.1 inches from my belly button. Good stuff! I feel great.
It’s not ending there… I have my training programme back at my home gym and I’ll be having monthly check-ins and training sessions Aimee to keep me on the straight and narrow for FIT 2012. Thanks to Aimee for all her support.
