International Personal Trainer Aimee Stevens: FIT 2012 Week 8

It maybe not be too sunny outside, but many of you will be gearing up for your summer holiday. Thinking about what to pack, getting your holiday wardrobe together and eek… thinking about wearing swimwear by the pool or on the beach!

At this time of year many people up their health and fitness regime. But if you’re struggling to make it to the gym, or when you do get there, you find you’re just not motivated – then help is at hand.

FIT 2012: Week 8

Aimee Stevens, is a personal trainer working in Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge in Kent, and based mainly at The Gym on Rock Villa Road, Tunbridge Wells. Aimee is a shining light of motivation and will get you focused on your goals and into that bikini or those swimming shorts in no time.

With a focus on resistance, conditioning and strength training, Aimee has got me doing all sorts of funny exercises during our 10 week FIT 2012 campaign. This is important, laugher whilst exercising, it helps you relax into it more, to enjoy the session and find it less daunting. Aimee knows her stuff and has me contorting in all sorts of machines (see evidence below), that take me at least 5 minutes to get in and out of each time!

After 10 minutes of trying, I finally sussed out how to do a really good workout for my hamstrings on this machine.

Aimee helps you focus on the whole fitness concept. Exercises that push you, nutrition, supplements and taking control of your diet. By working on a bespoke nutrition programme for you and giving you tips and ideas after you send your food diary to her each day, Aimee can really get you motivated to stick to a plan and achieve your goals.

Lessons Learnt

I thought I was being really good last week, with lean protein in the form of vegetarian sausages. But after sending my food diary to Aimee, I learnt that I was doing the wrong thing and was told off! Vegetarian sausages contains complex soya protein which replicates estrogen and for me this is bad news, as it affects the lower body and ability to reduce fat in this area. So, what I thought was good actually I learnt was bad for me – without Aimee, I wouldn’t have known this!

This week

  • I’ve signed up to MyFitnessPal on the iphone to track my calorie content each day
  • Deadlifting 60kg ! That’s my own body weight – but only a few reps
  • Lat Pull Down Sets have been a killer
  • I’ve done a lot of laughing – all good for the core
  • Leg Raises on a mat, lying down whilst holding up kettle bells above your head – great for the abs
  • I’ve cut sugar out from my coffee (finally!) – which means I’ll probably drink less coffee too!
