International Personal Trainer Aimee Stevens: FIT 2012 Week 9

It’s the penultimate week of my 10 week FIT2012 course with personal trainer Aimee Stevens. I’ve been very busy recently and not trained as much as I would like. But I feel stronger, fitter and leaner… how does this work?

Aimee, my personal trainer, assured me that athletes train hard before events but then in the last week, have the week off with less emphasis on training, more on nutrition – and this is the time when strength builds up. So although I’ve felt bad at not being able to train as much as I would like to, actually my body is still reacting to it and getting fitter. Excellent!

FIT2012 Week 9

This week it’s all about pushing limits. At The Gym, on Rock Villa Road, Tunbridge Wells there are so many different exercises you can do. It might look daunting to start with, but once you know how to use the machines, all the gizmos and get into it, it can be really fun.

Previously I’ve battled with the TredSled – it was not my friend. You have to run on it to make it work. I could just not get the thing to move. Now.. after a bit of gentle coaxing by Aimee, I can do 10 sets of 10 second sprints on it and not have the fear of falling straight off it. Then when we take it outside to do sprints, my speed is so much quicker as you have trained your body to work harder (after what feels like hours of pushing the prowler whilst sprinting). And it’s paid off, this week I ran my usual village 3.4km route 45 seconds quicker than I ever have.

The mighty TredSled

This week

  • I’m addicted to MyFitnessPal on the iphone & raving about it to colleagues – more importantly I can track my protein intake & check foods before I eat them
  • Deadlifting 55kg (last week it was 60kg but only three reps, this week 8 reps of 55kg)!
  • No prowler or sled – yes!
  • Deep Squats with raised calves – they’re getting easier, I feel stronger
  • No sugar in my coffee – wow! I’ve done it!
  • Quicker running on my running routes of Tunbridge Wells – the running mojo is back!

Don’t ask!
