Johari Style Challenge

When it comes to London Fashion Week; as well as making sure I have my press pass, have emailed all the PR’s with invitation requests, arranged coffees and catchups with my fashionista friends; one of the biggest things is – what the hell do I wear!

It can be a minefield, style at London Fashion Week. There are those that go all out with some crazy outfits and want to be noticed on the cobbles of Somerset House. There are those who are sleek, sophisticated and largely make it into shows unnoticed (magazine fashion editors) and then there are those like me who are in the middle. I want to make an effort, I want to wear those pieces in my wardrobe I can’t quite get away with in Tunbridge Wells (snakeskin lounge pants!) but I don’t want to be out of my comfort zone.

Just before London Fashion Week, ethical fashion brand Johari – who I have featured previously, got in touch with me about their style challenge. The aim was to choose one piece from their collection and style it for fashion week. I chose the Nzuri teeshirt – as I felt it was a really great piece to wear in all manner of situations, and I really wanted something to wear with those snakeskin lounge pants!

Johari is a unique ethical fashion brand established by Johari Foundation in Kenya.  It provides training and employment for vulnerable young women with the aim of supporting children on the Johari Foundation’s Social Development Programmes through the sale of Johari products.

The brand features prints inspired by the African culture and landscape, quirky, different and best of all ethical. All of Johari products are hand-made and materials are sourced from Africa. There are teeshirts, dresses, tops, skirts and accessories. Last season at LFW in September I wore the beautiful and bright Kilele dress. Super comfy, easy to dress up or dress down.

This season I wore the Nzuri teeshirt, Nzuri meaning “nice”, a cotton teeshirt with a slim fitted cut and an intricate hand printed Masaai face drawing. I really liked the print on this tee. It felt empowering and bold and I felt it went well with the bold trousers I was wearing.  I’d love to team with any of the DKNY Bags from John Lewis.  I wore this on day two of my London Fashion Week including to the Issa London catwalk show where I was a guest of LG Electronics. I can’t wait to wear it more this spring.
