Leather in Summer
Leather can be a very tricky trend to wear sometimes. It requires a certain character and edginess to pull it off, and is one that many people tend to stray away from. It’s easier in the winter as you can double a good leather jacket with a winter coat.
An iconic leather jacket is a great investment and will definitely see you through years of wear in a multitude of different occasions, from riding your bike to a night out on the town. The magic of a leather jacket means that you can wear it with literally anything, and still maintain that rebellious vibe you were going for.
The easiest look to pull off is the obvious rock chic/biker girl look. This is one of my favourites, and a great one to wear for a day-to-night look. You can pair your leather with some dark skinnies, a cool top and statement accessories, and then you’re good to go. A rock n roll top, laced with plenty of attitude, is the perfect combination for your leather and even ripped skinnies. Finish off with a pair of well-worn in sneakers to add to the edginess and spend the day looking cool.
For a more laid back version of this look, switch the skinnies for a lighter pair of boyfriend jeans and a casual t-shirt. Roll up those jeans, add a pair of heels or a casual pair of flats and that’s a perfect day look, especially for wandering around town. There are plenty of more laid back leather jackets that fit in well with this look. Have a look at some of the more distressed ones that can be won on a more casual basis then find the perfect pair of boyfriend fitting jeans and you have the perfect look.
You can go all black or even monochrome the look up a bit. There are some pretty cool monochrome leather jackets out there which you could style up, or you could get black leather on white or pastel trousers or vice versa for something a bit more unique. White leather with some pops of dark grey also works in a cool contrast.
If girly is more your thing, leather jackets go great with dresses too. You can go for a contrast look by pairing your leather with a white dress and add the leather jacket to toughen up your look. Accessories can help here too as they can add an extra layer of edge. To change up the look for a night out, you can pair your leather jacket with a little black dress instead. The classic look of a LBD, paired with an iconic leather jacket is a winning combination, and one guaranteed to help get you into the evening’s best parties.
Coloured denim definitely works for a summer’s day too. Pair it with some light colours, or go as far as some floral prints if you’re feeling adventurous. The burnt orange trend is set to be big this season, so definitely try your hand at a peachy or orange shade for your jackets to stand out some more. The colour, alongside a more suede jacket is perfect.
And the leather trend doesn’t stop at just jackets. If you’re bold enough, you can opt for leather trousers or even a leather dress and skirt from French Connection. Leather dresses have a certain chicness to them that does all the talking so there’s no need for too many more accessories or statement pieces. Pair it with some killer heels and you have the perfect outfit to see you through the night.
