LFW AW13 – Fashion Scout Carlotta Actis Barone

Fashion Scout it where I have been spending a lot of my time this London Fashion Week. Autumn/Winter Collections from up and coming designers. On day two, Carlotta Actis Barone was ‘The’ show to watch. Carlotta always puts on an amazing show, well thought out, imaginative and one to keep your attention.

Carlotta Actis Barone‘s collections are the expression of her artistic and socially orientated background.
Carlotta was born and raised in Italy, daughter of a visual artist and a published author.
She graduated from Central St Martins and has worked with Stella McCartney, Balmain and BDBC Maz Azria. Carlotta launched her label at London Fashion Week in September 2010 and since then has gone from strength to strength.

Her Autumn/Winter 13 collection was a “tribute to feminine art and sensitivity”. Carlotta’s style is very unique, she uses intricate shapes, slogans and symbols to give a voice to her work. This seasons collection was inspired by the images of Italian born artist Manuela Corti – a “new geometric era” involving Cubism and Dadaism.

Carlotta mixes light with heavy, black with white in her collection. There are soft pleated nets giving flow, whilst faux leather provides rigidity. Fine nets added a level of transparency whilst thick jerseys and wools brought opaque levels to the collection. Carlotta blends the lines of all of these aspects in carefully crafted creations.

The collection was a mix of cocktail dresses, evening gowns, coats and jackets. Shapes that are all about the “intricate female mind”. The black and white give a level of mystery whilst the lighter shades; creams and grey blend to show the beautiful lines.

It was a fabulous collection, feminine and graceful, bold yet beautiful.
