LFW AW13 – Fashion Scout Liz Black
I’d never been to a presentation at London Fashion Week before. I didn’t really know what to expect to be honest. So armed with an open mind and fashion blogging friends, I headed to the Liz Black presentation at Fashion Scout. Now first of all they had already won me over with the idea of a “mad hatter’s tea party”. There was the promise of cupcakes and cocktails, clearly I’m not going to turn them down!
We entered one of the amazing halls at the Freemason’s hall. Tall ceilings, wrought iron metal work gates and marbled floors greeted us. But so too did a table of cupcakes from Cutesy Cupcakes and cocktails from Campari Soda. Delicious on all levels. As we munched on our Alice in Wonderland themed cocktails, the gates to the next section of the room opened. Music boomed out and the presentation began. This was the interesting part. There were no seats, we stood as the fashion unfolded. On two sides of the room there were lines of mannequins showcasing the collection. Whilst in the middle there was a table set up for a tea party.
This is Liz Black‘s fifth ready to wear collection and for Autumn/Winter she took us to the world of Wonderland. It was all about elegance in structured sense for the modern sophisticated woman. Liz’s designs are wearable and fabulous. Simple yet charming. A mix of block colours and luxurious fabrics creating sleek silhouettes and unexpected forms. Mostly this came in the Queen of Hearts wearing her heart on her shoulders, well her back really in an amazing red dress. Whilst two other models walked around the party table; choosing where to sit, what to drink and what to eat in white and black elegant dresses.
The collection included muted tones of burgundy and navy using woollen gabardine and silk crepe to give a timeless and refined aesthetic to the collection. Liz Black is all about wearable statement pieces. This was a collection I could see in the office, the boardroom, at cocktail hour or at dinner.
The Liz Black woman is sophisticated, elegant and cosmopolitan. I loved the concept of the presentation, the drama yet subtlety, the collection was divine and it was great to view it in a different way. To be so close to the pieces, to be a part of an event and to feel that you are taking away more from the experience. Liz Black brought fashion to life.
