LFW AW13 – Zoë Jordan
The first show of London Fashion Week is always a special one. It’s normally Friday 9am, early for the fashion pack and an espresso fuelled queue normally forms. This year maybe they’ve taken note of the early times and yawning crews as it was pushed back to 10am. It is my favourite to watch and be a part of. There is a special buzz about an opening show. This season it was Zoë Jordan opening for Autumn/Winter 13 and I wasn’t in my usual spot.
Beauty Editor Amelia was there this season but she has dashed to St Andrews to take part in the judging panel of Alfa Romeo’s Young Designer Award in association with “that” fashion show where Wills met Kate, I am reporting back from my seat, “So Frow”. The new revolution that me and a couple of twitter fashionistas have coined – Sofa Front Row. Perfect!
Nevertheless the buzz of that opening show was there for me still and Zoë Jordan did a stunning show. The opening look was off white warmth, that’s what it looked like to me. A large overcoat ook in felt and jersey with skinny lounge pants, before moving on to a shift in the same material that looked snug yet beautiful. The looks moved on to a houndstooth tartan in a skater style skirt and then slash neck top and trousers. Then wait for it, under a very long houndstooth tartan over coat there was a pop of colour. Could this be the colour for Autumn/Winter? Burnt orange, hot, bright, bold and brave.
The orange travelled through the collection mixing with whites, blacks, shiny leathers. It really set off the looks but I’m not sure its a colour for me. The vibrancy of the collection came through with the touches of colour here and there; cerise pink looked perfect in a long-sleeved loose top and cigarette trousers. There was a great graphic print sculptured dress half way through that was a really strong look. Green and blue print on black, that also featured in a halterneck short body con dress too. As per other shows there seems to be a tendency to end on a metallic note. At Lug Von Siga we saw a gold power suit and at Zoë Jordan we do too. Shiny, effervescent and strong finishes.
Zoë Jordan put together an amazing collection that was wearable, sumptuous and structured without losing that feminine touch to the tailoring. We saw the most beautiful photographic print dress from the interior of the Duomo in Rome, I am coveting big time. Just simple yet exquisite. Through out the collection there as a style that we also saw later on in the day at PPQ. A triangle shaped top bust line to a corset top, spiky, strong yet not too fearsome.
This collection was androgynous without losing a feminine sexy edge. Jordan famously designs for “the woman who is the boy’s best friend and a girl’s confidante”, (Source: Metro) and this collection oozes a toughness but strong feminine style.
