London Fashion Week SS13: Issa London
Issa London is the hottest ticket in town in regards to London Fashion Week. We were privileged to attend the AW12 show and it was just breathtaking. Back then we were taken on a journey from Mongolia to Siberia for SS13 the show opened with bird calls and we’d taken a trip to the hot tropics.
Issa tweeted a sneak preview just before the show started, we saw amazing updos and floor length wrap dresses, flowers in the models hair and fabulous chunky jewellery. This was just a taster of an amazing collection to come.
Watching the show we felt like we were going on a childhood adventure; reading a story of the Garden of Eden and imagining the flowers, the birds, the creatures in the rainforest. The collection was brimming with bright colours, bold natural prints and feminine dresses. It felt like daytime glamour to wear whilst shopping for treasures on a holiday isle, to enjoying leisurely balmy evening with a cocktail in half a coconut.
Prints were inspired by the all-encompassing tropical leaves and plants, dotted with dazzling, colourful flowers and exotic fruits. The models had grace and looked like goddesses in outfits with a whimsical twist to Issa’s classic and flattering shapes.
Echoing the purity of the setting, come a series of long, languid chiffon and satin dresses. Playful knitwear dresses, which are key this season, feature in jacquards of bright neon colours with extravagant floral embroidery, dusted across halter necklines and hems. Vivid brights continue into coquettish eyelet cotton voile dresses, bold primary colours, loud green, hot yellow, that cobalt blue of SS13 again and burnt orange as well as weave front dresses with short skater style skirt lengths.
Iconic dresses remain in the collection, transformed this season by asymmetric draping and fold details which disappear into the waist band with the flattering fit the Issa woman has come to expect. Necklines have been interesting at LFW this season. At PPQ we saw a whole host as we did here, slash neck, kimono sleeve, halter-neck and deep plunging v neck.
Never one to shy away from a love story, SS13 delivers a collection for the Issa woman to seduce in. The bright orange and pink hued party dresses, are ideal for cocktails at sunset. Our favourite were the finale dresses, white, flowing but with a dash of colour; like living watercolours.
This collection whisked us away to a far off land. The temperature rose, it got a little humid and our mouths were dry. It was spectacular, it was rich with colour and played with our fantasies of adventure on tropic islands. Beautiful, as always, Issa London.
