New Year, New You, New Closet?

Are you thinking it’s the new year, how about a refresh of the wardrobe and a trip to the shops?  Now, we’re not ones to ever dismiss a much needed trip to the shops but it is not always necessary.

With a few long weeks until payday and that Christmas credit card bill around the corner, maybe it’s time to do a wardrobe audit and understand what you really need rather than what you really want.

New Wardrobe – Just refresh it!

Revisit your wardrobe, it is time to get a little OCD and list everything you have got in there, and those chest of drawers that you shove everything into the drawers and hope they will shut.  Let’s get a little Gok Wan and raid the wardrobe, look at what you’ve got and look at where to begin in getting yourself up for a year of fashion.

The List

You need to break down your inventory into some key sections, to realise what you have and what is missing.  Also now is the time to really have a good clear out, take those jeans to the charity shop that you have been waiting to shrink into for four years. Do you really need four black tshirts that look identical?  Your list should fall into the following headings and we’ve given top tips as to what you need in each as a bare minimum ;

Basics/Essentials

  • White Bra, Black Bra, Nude Bra, Strapless Bra
  • The same matching underwear (at least)
  • Long sleeved white, black and dark blue soft cotton tops that can be layered under anything

Key Work Wear

  • Colourful knitwear
  • Pussy bow neck tie blouses
  • Peter Pan slim fit tops
  • A good suit jacket
  • Pale Denim look smart trousers
  • Black skirt
  • Black trousers

Key Weekend Wear

  • Grey Marl – edgy print tees
  • Comfortable knitwear  – remember the colour block trend
  • Chunky knit sweater
  • Skinny Jeans
  • Comfy Jeans
  • Kimono style wrap cardigan for the chillier months

Key Party Wear

  • LBD
  • LWD – this seasons Little Black Dress
  • Sequin Vest Top
  • Black Skinny Jeans
  • Leopard print blouse top

Have a good think about what you wore last season, what haven’t you worn for three seasons.. those pieces should really be put out in the charity shop bag or if good enough to a pre loved shop such as Love Is Boutique.   Unless its a designer classic that will come back round, always hold on to them.  A great way of remembering your outfit combinations is by taking a photo of your outfit and logging it on fashbo.com.  Not only will you inspire others with your look but you can look back and see what looks you have worn and how you have worn certain pieces for the last season.

One skirt – three looks

Always work on  how you can create outfits from your key pieces, that way you get more out of your clothes and can create a variety of looks.  We’ve taken a simple straight cut skirt from Mango and shown in three situations how you can make a set fabulous outfits.

One Skirt - Three Looks

  • Casual - Team with a bright coloured sweater to give you the edge this winter  Mango Basic knit jumper £9.99

  • Cocktail Time - Sequin Front Vest from Topshop to sparkle at any event. Team with black patent stilettos and black accessories to make a statement
Spend one of these cold, dreary winter weekends checking out your wardrobe, making your list and knowing what you need to get some great outfits together.  Then when you’re ready to hit the shops it will be Spring Collection time and a whole array of fabulous prints, colours and textures will be ready for the taking.
