Party with the Past for a Vintage Hen Weekend

The word ‘hen party’ might bring to mind a ‘Booze Britain’ style montage of pink-sashed, teeny-bopper wearing women stumbling down the high street and heading out to all the mainstream bars… but it doesn’t have to. Rewind time and go vintage for a hen weekend with a difference.

But how can you actually go for this alternative to what we all know as the hen party norm? Well we’re sure you and your friends can cook up a few vintage party ideas over a couple of cocktails but to get the ideas flowing and to have you inspired to the max, I’ve got some for you right below – so throw down the flashing ‘L’ plate and pick up a fascinator!

Vintage Masterclass

To make sure you can put on a proper vintage hen weekend that is as authentic as it can be in 2013, you’re going to need to know your stuff, so how better to get festivities rolling than with a masterclass in all things vintage? You might think your wardrobe is filled with real vintage pieces but over these few hours you’ll delve into a bygone era with the experts – showing you how to spot a real vintage piece from a fake.

After you’ve filled up on knowledge, it’s time to relax with your friends in this vintage boutique over some tea, French cakes and champagne, all while listening to some music from the era.

Perfume Making

So now you’ve got the look, it’s time to smell the part and instead of taking a stroll around Boots to find the perfect scent, why not use this as your opportunity to make one? Who wouldn’t want to have their very own scent? Don’t worry, it won’t be some cheesy Britney Spears inspired perfume, but will instead be an experience that is as sophisticated as it gets. Able to be staged in the comfort of your own home or a venue of your choice, you will be taken through different fragrances and shown the process that actually goes into making a unique perfume… before creating one of your own to wear out or even to the wedding! Now you just have to think about what you’re going to call it.

Capture the Moment with a Photoshoot

Looking and smelling this good needs to be captured forever, so hire a professional photographer, get dolled up in vintage dress and have an alternative photo with your group of hens. Other hen groups out there will have a Facebook album filled with photos of their night out which might look like they’re more at home here, but you and your ladies can instead look your best with classy style in vintage photographs that are as timeless as the era you’re aiming to replicate.

Spice things up with Moulin Rouge

Moulin Rouge is something that captures the vintage era better than most other things out there, so this could be just the centrepiece of the hen party you’re looking for… but how? I’m not just talking about sticking the film on (although you could do that the night before or after for a little chill out with your friends) but actually embarking on a Moulin Rouge Experience. This is offered in many different hen-centric cities and see’s you all throwing on can-can skirts and learning how to throw those legs high as well as spicing things up with a bit of burlesque.

If you’re going to go all out though, I can’t think of anything better than actually heading to Paris for your vintage hen weekend and setting sets on Montmartre before going to see the actual show.

Where to Actually Go?

Talking of places to go to fill up on vintage style, where else should you mark out to be the setting for this sophisticated weekend? Staying on home soil, I would recommend Bath for its picturesque beauty and history, along with London or Edinburgh for much of the same if you look in the right places!

There we have it – and not even a pink feather boa or a pair of novelty fairy wings in sight! What other vintage hen party ideas can you come up with?
