‘Somerset’ by Alice Temperley for John Lewis
With Autumn not too far around the corner, we’re getting excited about the latest diffusion range soon to be hitting the shops…We attended the launch of the campaign video for the launch of Alice Temperley’s new collaboration with John Lewis.
We were delighted to hear about the exciting new collaboration between renowned British designer Alice Temperley and bastion of Britishness John Lewis. Temperley has created a 60 piece collection for the store, which will go on sale on the 4th September. The collection, named ‘Somerset’ after Temperley’s home county, is eclectic, elegant, and versatile. The collaboration celebrates the 10th anniversary of Temperley London, and is sure to be hugely popular.
‘Somerset’ is a fluid mix of some of the highlights of the designer’s career, incorporating everything from Victoriana to military styles, and a true Bohemian feel. And note carefully, that’s Bohemian, distinctly not boho. Above all, the collection retains the unique quirky elegance so associated with Temperley.
Pieces range from statement to essential, meaning you can pick and choose from the collection to put together your own distinct look. From leopard print to pony skin to leather to glorious floaty prints, there’s something for everyone. Camel capes, lace embellished blouses and chunky knits sit alongside 70s style maxi and leather pencil skirts; a celebration of Temperley’s art and enduring style.
A video has been produced for the campaign, and Lady M Presents attended the exclusive launch last week where we swapped past fashion faux pas and sipped Passionfruit Collins cocktails at The Golden Bee in Shoreditch.
The video as seen above, features a luminous Lily Donaldson and her sister Aurelia, and is filmed by acclaimed photographer Tom Craig. The film references Temperley’s own childhood, juxtaposing images of children dressing up in floppy hats and brightly coloured shoes with shots of Lily and Aurelia, walking through a verdant park. You can catch glimpses of the gorgeous collection in action, and the atmospheric video will inspire you long ahead of the collection launch. At Lady M Presents, we particularly love the ‘country to city’ aesthetic of the video, being Kent and Sussex dwellers who make frequent trips to London.
Temperley’s celebrity fans include Kate and Pippa Middleton, Florence Welch, Emily Blunt and Lily Cole – but don’t worry if you don’t quite have the wardrobe allowance of the Dutchess of Cambridge. The Temperley and John Lewis collaboration has more accessible price points than the Temperley London collection, starting at around £29 for a scarf and averaging at £99 for a day dress. The most expensive item in the collection is a sheepskin coat at the £1000 mark, but for the most part, the items are more affordable – still special, still an investment piece, and a wardrobe addition to be proud of.
The first drop will hit 29 John Lewis shops on 4th Sept (get queuing now?!) with a second drop due for October, which will lean more towards partywear, ahead of the festive season. Look out for more pieces in the not too distant future on how the Lady M team would style the pieces. So all that remains to be said, is, enjoy the video, look forward to the collection, and…does anyone else fancy a trip to Somerset?
