Styling just got sweeter – The Candy Collection from ghd

We’ve been harping on about our desire for Spring to hurry its way into our lives. Filling LadyM Towers with bright yellow tulips and daffodils to add a bit of colour in our lives and day dreaming about trips to Cannes and St Tropez to bring a bit of warmth to our chilly evenings. So when ghd kindly gifted us a new styler from their Candy collection, I could not wait to get started on a Spring time look. Plus it was lemon yellow, to add to our brightening theme!

Well when it comes to stylers, straighteners, hair tools for want of a better word. I tend to struggle. Unless I’m simply straightening my hair, anything more and one side of the hair can look fab, the other not so fab, so in order to create a fabulous stylish Spring look – I recruited Tunbridge Wells hairstylist Matthew Lees of Happy Hair to help out!

Dedicating a Sunday morning to coffee, chat and hair styling, Matthew was, as always a star. Now to test out the iconic hairstyling brand, ghd’s new candy collection we thought it would be fun to style half my hair in a soft spring curl (see what we did there) and half in a sleek look for everyday to show the stylers abilities off to their best.

Curls first and it was rather interesting to watch Matthew do this. Now I know how the wrapping tape feels at Christmas when I stretch it out to make a nice curly bow. You really have to get some good tension on the hair, clamp it well into the ghd’s but not too tight as you need to pull and tease the hair as you round it around the cylinder of the styler and then hey presto! A curl appears!

Matthew then straightened the other half of my hair. I can’t tell you how many times I have straightened my hair with various types of stylers throughout the years. But ceramic plated stylers are the best and ghd know what they are doing. I know I had an expert doing it, but i’m pretty sure I can recreate salon sleek hair at home thanks to the heat technology that is now at my fingertips.

Then Matthew left me to test out the styler on my own to straighten out the curls into a sleek look for my lunch with the girls later on that day. What I love about the styler is that it doesn’t get too hot in your hands when you’re in the heat of the moment. I can imagine on a Monday morning the last thing I want to do is rush doing my hair, getting hot and bothered in front of the mirror. Although it is straightening the hair at quite a heat (usually around 230*C) I didn’t get any residual heat myself. The ceramic plates smoothed my hair with their heat technology after creating great body to my curls earlier in the morning.  Plus it has a sleep setting so if you are in a hurry and forget to switch your styler off (which I always worry about) – it will simply go to sleep!

All in all I felt cheered by the candy lemon limited edition styler, which is also available in mint and violet. I also wore some fabulous Pressed Pigment from MAC Cosmetics in Flicker on my eyes to brighten up my makeup look for the day. And of course sequins on a Sunday are perfect for Spring. I love this tee from Wrap.
