Sunglasses Styles to Suit Face Shape

So the sun is finally out, welcome to the Summer. It’s really important, as well as fashionable to have a good pair of sunglasses. As well as protection for your eyes you can look super stylish in the right pair of sunglasses to suit your face shape.

Sunglasses Styles to Suit Face Shape

Many people struggle to find sunglasses that actually suit them, and choosing the right pair can be difficult, so we thought we’d help you out with our breakdown by face shape with a few ideas to give you inspiration.

Square Faceshape

If you sport a strong jaw line and defined cheekbones, you are likely to have a square face shape. Aviators will suit you or sunglasses with a rounded frame. For women oversized sunglasses are good. Go glam with 50′s style butterfly frames.

Rounded Faceshape

For those with softer features slim your face with a frame slightly wider than the broadest part of your face. Avoid round frames and instead go for square or rectangular. If you’re feeling a little flash then embellishments are good to give definition and for men Wayfarer sunglasses are a good option.

Oblong Faceshape

If you have an oblong face shape then avoid angular shaped sunglasses. For men round or square shapes suit, again aviators are a great option. Oval, oversized shades for women work well with an oblong face.

Heart Faceshape

If you have a defined face shape with pointed chin then retro shape sunglasses are the way forward. Choose rectangular or cat eyed glasses and for men, wrap around frames are good but keep them small and neat.

Oval Faceshape

If you have an oval shaped face then you are one lucky shopper! As any style suits an oval shaped face. Go for details on the arms and metal framework and dark lenses add great definition.

 A few top tips

The size of sunglasses should be in scale with the size of your face. If you have a small face, go for small sunglasses. If you have a large face, you can work larger sunglasses. If your face is particularly petit, children’s sunglasses can look perfectly proportioned – don’t be embarrassed, they can be pretty funky!

If, instead of balancing your features, you would rather draw attention, do the opposite of balancing. For example, if you are elfin and dainty, oversized sunglasses will make you look even more elfin and dainty. If you want to exaggerate your chiselled jaw, strong and angular shades will do the trick.

Big or wide noses should avoid plastic or moulded frames, which will often sit too high on the face. Instead, opt for a pair with adjustable nose pads that you can tailor to sit perfectly.

Crooked noses or lopsided ears are surprisingly common. Lopsided ears especially are an affliction you would be oblivious to until you discover sunglasses don’t seem to sit straight. Adjustable nose pads can be tweaked to iron out any small differences.

There is a debate as to whether sunglasses should cover eyebrows, rest on them or just below them, but the truth is it’s all about preference; go with whatever feels comfortable.
