Swimwear at New Zealand Fashion Week 2013
Last time I was at New Zealand Fashion Week I fell in love with swimwear label Surface Too Deep. Fabulous vintage inspired, retro feel, ruffles round the edges swimwear from Wellington luxe limited edition label.
On my final day at NZFW I was looking forward to the Surface Too Deep and Tigerlily, an Australian swimwear brand.
Surface Too Deep
It’s easier to let the photos do the talking but there really was a tropical sense of glamourous living it up with the Spring/Summer swimwear collection. Clearly there isn’t going to be an Autumn/winter collection, it’s swimwear for heavens sake so think bright, bold, powerful prints and fabulous outfits. It’s not just about functional swimwear these days you know!
Prints came in a kaleidoscope of corals, pinks and purples then to a sumptuous yet dainty white daisys with beautiful blue flowers. Each print shown in a one piece, and three forms of bikinis/separates. Each perfect for different body shapes. I love the cut of the swimsuits – very 50′s, very chic.
Then came the black one piece, I was blown away. Back to day dreaming about the beach in Cannes, the villa in St Tropez – it was super star stylish and perfect with heels. The wide straps on this style really emphasis the shape of the past.
Tigerlily
Australian swimwear brand Tigerlily was founded by Jodhi Meares in the year 2000. Jodhi created a brand that represents beauty and strength, individuality and confidence. Not just being about swimwear but building that beach or pool side wardrobe too.
The brand feels exotic, the collection whisked me away to a Mexican resort. It was fun, carefree and a little bit mysterious. Much like the Tigerlily woman.
There was a bohemian feel to the collection, sixteen looks featuring one pieces, separates, kimonos, shirts and shorts. It was like being by the pool in the dry mexican heat. Wearing Aztec prints whilst the breeze rolls in across the desert. Candy stripes mixing with leopard print, coral the colour of the season coming through again.
My favourite piece from the collection was actually the long spaghetti strapped play suit in a gorgeous blue with a mish mash of prints, it had a very vintage feel. Gorgeous for going from the pool to the pool side bar or out to dinner on a hot summers night.
