Three | Feel at Home
Last week on a very wet and wild August night I headed to Shoreditch, East London to meet the fabulous social media team behind mobile phone network giant, Three and to team up with some equally fabulous bloggers for an evening of cocktail making.
The Feel at Home cocktail making event, hosted at the Mixology Studios on Ravey Street in London was extremely fun. I teamed up with Daniel from Three, Aimee from Miss Luxury Life and Nirave from Tech View, to make four fabulous cocktail creations.
It was a lot of fun, a little messy and we produced some very yummy cocktails. We learnt how to combat a drink that is too sour, how to make a cocktail balance and our team most certainly learnt that you really should listen to instructions when we accidentally added far too much orange liquor to our third cocktail – oops!
The final round: The Competition – we submitted the Fashion Blogger (1st on the left) as our entry – it came 2nd!
The Cocktails
You might have seen the latest Feel at Home advert on the television… the bragging about the cocktails… well here’s my brag from a fab evening.
My favourite cocktail of the night was The French Martini. Now normally i’m not a Martini kinda gal but this one was sublime.
The French martini takes its name from the style of drink it is and the French spirits and liquors used. The original recipe uses only three ingredients, which show good balance of sweetness between the flavours. The black raspberry liquor Chambord that has hints of vanilla creates a strong berry flavour that is complimented by a pressed pineapple juice. A fruit feel to what is normally a very strong, sour tasting cocktail
The recipe:
In a Boston Tin (cocktail shaker) add;
3/4 measures of Vodka
3/4 measures of Chambord liquor
1 measure of pressed pineapple juice
Fill the Boston glass with cubed ice and shake vigorously for ten seconds. Strain into a chilled martini or 1920’s champagne goblet, turn a raspberry bottom facing up and place it on the foam that should appear on the top of the cocktail.
The other surprise of the evening was the Grapefruit and Marzipan Daiquiri as I’m not a fan of marzipan at all. The daiquiri was originally purely white rum, lime and sugar served in a Collins glass with cubed ice. There were eight measures of rum in the recipe. The grapefruit and marzipan daiquiri sees the addition of more citrus fruits and more sweetness to the cocktail. This is a common variation with the daiquiri.
In a Boston Glass add;
1/8 of a squeeze pink grapefruit
1 Blackberry
(Muddle these ingredients)
1 measure of fresh lime juice (a Mexican elbow can be used)
12.5ml – 25ml- of Orgeat syrup (Personal Taste)
1 measure of Dark Rum
1 measure of Gold Rum
Fill the Boston with cubed ice, squeeze the Boston tin over the glass and shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass filled with cubed ice and a sugar rim and enjoy!
Feel at Home from Three
Feel at Home from Three is exactly what it says in the title. Three customers who now visit France, Switzerland, Israel, Finland and Norway will now be able to use the internet, text and call home without incurring nasty roaming charges. Now I know that’s a random list of countries but an estimated 17.1 million Brits will be crossing the English Channel to France for a holiday this year and I know I am one of them! How perfect is it not to have nasty extra roaming charges whilst you’re on your holidays.
The service, called Feel at Home, lets you browse the internet, call and text home and tweet and chat until your heart’s content without paying a penny more. The five new countries join the 11 destinations where Feel at Home is currently available,
including the USA, Australia and Italy.
The science bit
Customers on pay monthly, Pay-As-You-Go, SIM-only and mobile broadband have the freedom to use Feel At Home within the limits of their current Three price plan allowance, as long as international roaming is activated. Calls and texts to non-UK numbers will be charged at standard roaming rates. Tethering is not included. Pay-As-You-Go customers will require an add on.
Thanks to the team at Three and Arena for the invite and the yummy cocktails! More photos can be found at our Facebook page.
