Toni & Guy NZ Styling LadyM at New Zealand Fashion Week

When it comes to fashion month and attending fashion weeks around the world, the build up to September can start well into July. Outfit planning is meticulous, as well as what shoes, outerwear, bags….It’s a well planned time. But then comes hair and makeup, what to do?

Well as I was heading over to New Zealand Fashion Week for the second season in a row. I called upon my very good twitter friend Dani McAllen of fabulous blog Dani Just Is.  She is a girl about town in Auckland. A fabulous fashionista and knows everyone. So when I asked her about where to get my hair done for New Zealand Fashion Week she passed me on to her fabulous stylist Anthony at Toni & Guy NZ in Ponsonby.

Toni & Guy in the UK are the official sponsor to London Fashion Week and since I am not attending there this season, I felt like it was my little nod to a fabulous link up with London Fashion Week. Toni & Guy was founded by Toni Mascolo and his brother Guy in 1963 in Clapham, London. Since then it’s taken off across the UK now have over 420 salons in 42 countries worldwide. So it was like a home from home.

I was welcomed into the fabulous salon at 48A Ponsonby Road, Auckland by the lovely Emma (I have hair envy, amazing copper colour!) and over coffee discussed with Anthony my style for day one of New Zealand Fashion Week. I am addicted to my hair straighteners so I wanted to go for a different look for Fashion Week…. et voila, Anthony did his magic.

A blast of label.m Sea Salt Spray to rough the hair up a little to give an edgy matt finish, followed by big waves created with wide hair straighteners and curling the hair around. I thought this looked fab, but it was too “finished”, so Anthony brushed out the curls to make them more of a wave, then put label.m Resurrection Style Dust in at the roots. This gives amazing volume from the root and allows you to rework the style throughout the day by simply massaging at the roots.

So onto day two of NZFW. Anthony had dreams of an amazing up-do but with the threat of heavy rain all afternoon and a bit of wind coming across the harbour – as well as the fact that the waves from the previous day had held so well we decided on a change of tact.

So day two involved a lovely shampoo, condition and the most amazing head massage (just what a girl needs during fashion week). Then a quick rough dry and out with the thick hair straighteners again to create some body of waves, of course brushed out to the same as yesterdays style. But this time with a twist.

Anthony created a fabulous braid across the front section of my hair, wrapping it around and pinning at the back. Whilst giving root lift to the crown to create a halo effect. This time he used label.m Soufflé to give definition to my loose waves. A great off the face look for when it’s a tad windy (perfect for London) and a little different to my normal centre parting and straight-haired self.

The salon in the Ponsonby area of Auckland has just been completed and is the latest Toni & Guy to open in New Zealand. Anthony, fellow stylist Byron and Emma make a great team. Set in a gorgeous heritage building, the bare brick walls and white space is a creative heaven and I can really imagine it buzzing with all the local gossip on a saturday morning, with turning head styles coming out the doors every day.

If you live in Auckland or are just having a passing visit but need your hair done then make sure you head to Toni & Guy at 48A Ponsonby Road, Auckland – they are fabulous team there and they will take care of your hair styling needs!

Thanks to the guys there for taking the styling shots and also to Jamie-Lee from Mademoiselle fashion blog for her photography prowess.
