Autumn Winter 2014 Trend Report | What to Wear
Autumn is officially upon us which means five things to me; Goodbye flip-flips, Hello boots! Pumpkin spice lattes at the ‘Bucks, snuggly knits and cosy nights in, a sudden urge to have soup (all the time!) and of course, a brand new fashion season is upon us!
Pack away your cut-offs, fold up your floaty dresses and haul down that autumn / winter trunk. It is officially autumn! Autumn / winter fashion always brings new and exciting trends, and fashion this fall is no exception. Keep reading for your guide to top A/W14 trends and how to wear them this season.
Fur
Both Christopher Bailey (Burberry Prosum) and Phoebe Philo (Celine) paraded fresh, experimental twists for this season’s key trends. Fur, in all form, was included in the key AW14 collections. Burberry in particular celebrated shearling. River Island have followed suit and produced this snuggly, little number at more affordable pricing.
- Burberry Leather-trimmed Shearling Coat £2595
- River Island Faux Shearling Jacket £75
How can I wear this trend?
This season, remember that fur is fun, especially faux fur! It should be worn anyway (coloured, dip-dyed, fluffy, and short) and any-wear (jackets, bags, pom-poms, and collars). My go-to purveyor of luxury faux fur has to be Helen Moore. Smart collars and fun, coloured scarfs (spotted on Fearne Cotton) are just some of her fluffy delights.
- Michael Kors Shrimps Faux Fur Pom-Pom Keychain – £23
- Pablo Faux Fur clutch £185
- Helen Moore Bright Faux Fur Multi Vixen Scarf £120
- Helen Moore Magenta Faux Fur Tote Bag £90
Denim
While major A/W trends for 2014 do include the wild and unconventional, there is also musings aplenty about denim which has been re-worked to include multi-patch, stripes and embroideries. The Current / Elliott collection is no exception.
- Current / Elliott Patchwork denim jean £202
Furthermore, AW14 has cast a shadow over the ‘Skinny’ jean and a spotlight on the ‘Strinny’ jean. The ‘Strinny’ jean is the straight leg skinny and should be worn part-off duty relaxed chic and part-tailored. It is worth splashing out on this fabulous J Brand pair but if the purse-strings won’t allow, then look to Zara for a more affordable wear.
- J Brand Ellis style ‘Strinny’ Jean prices vary
- Zara Low-rise ‘Strinny’ Jean £30
Wrap Coats
Is there anything better than snuggling into a super-sized coat when the winter chill arrives? Think – oversized, Think – Soft, Think Collared! Wrap coats are currently being paraded all over the catwalk and in most high street shops. It’s always worth investing in a quality coat with natural fibres that will let your skin breathe and keep that precious heat in!
- Ted Baker Belted Wrap Coat £299
- Burberry Pale Grey Melange Coat £895
The 60′s
Yep, it’s back! A fashion era that rhythmically swings around, bringing mojo back to style. Hemlines are up, ankles are out. At Gucci’s fall show, creative director Frida Giannini’s showcased A-Line skirt and glossy knee-high boots with a sixties slant.
- Gucci Bead Embodied Leather Dress £3950
- Frame Denim Stretch Denim Overalls £325
How can I wear this trend?
This is the time to channel your inner Jean Shrimpton! Think miniskirts, pattern dresses, flares, roll-necks and flannel – just go for it!
