Pantone Colour of the Year 2015 | Marsala
I’ve only recently become absorbed into the world of interior design, colour schemes and home styling,a as a new home owner. Little did I know that there is actually an official “colour of the year” released each year from Pantone, it’s been happening since 1990 and this year, that colour is Marsala.
No, it’s not the chicken tikka type! It’s a deep red, an earthy colour, named after the Marsala fortified wine. The colour exudes a sophisticated air, and lends to working with other natural hues. “This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors”, Pantone.
This colour works well in fashion. A great contrast piece to the Spring/Summer blues that are on trend and a great compliment to the black and white we saw at Fashion Week. The best way to wear Marsala is in accessories. A deep red trench coat, a near oxblood red handbag. It’s a colour that suits most skin tones and will look great in a nail colour for the Autumn/Winter 2015 beauty trends.
In terms of interiors, Marsala gives a great sense of warmth to the colour palette. We have a ‘snug’ to decorate and this is a definite favourite. There is something a little medieval about the colour but it also has a freshness of modern times. A dramatic colour that can be freshened up with neutrals, white accessorising and metallic hues.
Here are some great ways to bring Marsala into your home. I must admit I’m not really a red fan. It’s a colour I avoid when it comes to fashion, but for interiors, the complexity of the colourways intrigues me and now I have a few rooms to act as blank canvases, I might just embrace this years, Pantone colour of the year and test out Marsala.
Bring Marsala into your kitchen with the Urban Satin Rosewood kitchen with Solid Walnut worktops from £20,000 from John Lewis of Hungerford.
Why not make a feature wall in your bathroom? One block colour might be an easier way to ease yourself into embracing such a bold colour. Featuring the Elite 2 Premium Shower Kit: £215.00; Central Chrome Flush Plate: £49.00; Svelte White Back to Wall WC: £490.00 from Crosswater.
There’s a simple way to bring Marsala into your home colour palette without it being a block colour or a new facelift to your home. Simply update your accessories such as this runner from LinenMe. Featuring Antico Due Cream/Red Striped Linen Runner: £39.99; Antico Due Cream/Red Striped Linen Napkin: £7.99.
One way to make your home feel warm, a little bit regal and on trend with the Pantone colour of the year is with your furniture. The Sofa & Chair Company have a great selection of pieces. Featuring the Fenton Armchair: £1995.00 and the Sloane Royal Bed: from £5295.00 plus fabric.
So what will you do to embrace the Pantone colour of the year for 2015? Is Marsala a colour you would go for all out or will it be a few accessories here or there. Tell us your thoughts and tell us what your interiors goals are for this year.
