We know it’s still summer but for LadyM’s last show on BBC Radio Kent as their resident fashion blogger; we thought we’d take a look ahead to the Autumn/Winter fashion trends in womenswear and menswear.
Autumn/Winter 2012 Fashion Trends
We had a great time at London Fashion Week. Show highlights for us being Antoni and Alison, PPQ, Corrie Nielsen and Issa London. There really felt a sense of focus on comfort, styling and journeys in the collections we saw. There were stories behind collections, heritage shining through but a futuristic notion at the same time.
Key trends this season are about texture and tone, Fashion156.com noted the colour palette as “intense forest tones – rust, moss green, berry red, earth brown – merged with petrol blue, darkened turquoise and navy”. We saw a lot of cashmere and wool mixing with tartans in reds, blacks and blues – giving depth and texture to the collections.
Womenswear Autumn/Winter 12
Three key trends we want to bring to you for Autumn/Winter are; the ever present ladylike glamour and power dressing for women; the colour purple and Neo Goth – so lets take a look:
LadyLike Glamour
Keep warm for the next season with the oversized coat. The ultimate in ladylike glamour with a touch of power from such a statement outfit. DAKS brought us sumptuous felt oversized coats whilst Jasper Conran mixed cashmere jackets and oversized separates.
Tartan is the way forward for Issa London and PPQ and fabulous 1950′s dresses still reign on the catwalk. Ladies now is the time to invest in some key pieces for your wardrobe that will see you through for years to come – a good, well made oversized coat.
The Colour Purple
Purple has been seen on the catwalk for the last few seasons but this season collections were really about fearless fashion for females. Purple radiates opulence and is all about making a statement. Velvet and shot silk satin in ruffles and layers were also omnipresent and it really felt like clothes that made you feel rich and glamorous from the inside from the tones and textures you wear.
Neo Goth
Black has always been in fashion, will it ever lose its magic touch? There was a lot of black, particularly in leather seen on the catwalks of Vanessa Bruno, Chanel and PPQ. Black leather mixed with lace and knee high boots gives a touch of goth to an otherwise ladylike season.
Other big trends at London Fashion Week for Autumn/Winter:
Digital prints -Based on silk and chiffon, Antoni and Alison brought us an outfit in one dress, with the use of digital prints whilst the Queen of Print, Mary Katrantzou still reigns with an amazing collection of vibrant prints and colours.
Military Chic from the likes of Isabel Marant and other European fashion houses. Brass and olive mixing well with regal blue and red jackets to give a touch of authority.
Emerald Green was the other colour of choice on the catwalk at PPQ and Issa London in particular.
Menswear Autumn/Winer 12
Three key trends we want to bring to you for Autumn/Winter for the men are; the 70′s polo neck is back with a fashionable turn; double-breasted jackets for men are turning heads; leather is everywhere. The menswear collections followed the womens with a tale of power and money, not necessarily spending the money but showing it through your clothes.
Polo positioning
Ok so we know they were fashionable way back when, but trends come back around. Keep warm as we step into the cooler months and add a white or black polo shirt under your suit for the office or dinner jacket for that smart client dinner. Mix the textures up as Ferragamo did, but keep the polo shirt plain and the outer garments more lively.
Double-breasted Elegance
Keep out the cold and get fashionable with a knee length double-breasted over coat. Seen at Dries Van Noten in this seasons Olive and charcoal grey at Jean Paul Gaultier, think heavy set materials and an oversized collar you can turn up to give an edge of coolness to your look.
Leather Lessons
This season for Autumn/Winter on the menswear catwalks there was a lot of leather, maybe a compliment to the Neo Goth in the womenswear collections. Alexander Wang presented some really strong pieces with crushed soft leather jackets to sports jackets with leather sleeves for a funky take on this trend.
Other big trends at London Fashion Week for Autumn/Winter:
Olive is a big colour for men this season; in a traditionally grey and black time of year.
Check out a few cheeky animal prints hit the high street in knitwear and long sleeved teeshirts, have a bit of fun with fashion this season.
