3 Style Tips with Avenue 32
Recently I had the pleasure of being asked to join top fashionistas, bloggers and industry experts; such as Rosie Fortescue and Lois Waller from the blog Bunni Punch, to share our style tips. All our thoughts were put together in an awesome collaboration with online fashion destination, Avenue 32 and are now available via their fashion ebook from the website.
As the Fashion Correspondent for BBC Radio Kent, I have shared a lot of my style and fashion tips. One that is the most well received is a tip for sale shopping and this is the one that I shared with Avenue 32.
Style tip 1 – Sale Shopping
If you’re in the sales, about to buy an item because it’s more than half price and what you (think) you’ve always wanted – just hold fire a second.
Visualise in your head three pieces from your existing wardrobe that you can style with the item you are thinking of buying. Is there a plan? Is there outfit potential? If not, put it back on the rack and step away!
Honestly, you’ll thank me afterwards. Otherwise that sale bargain might be destined for many years at the bottom of your wardrobe without even having the tag removed.
“ I like mixing things up, it keeps my interest piqued. Just as long as I’m representing the best of British talent i’ve found for Avenue 32, and throughout my career”. Erin Mullaney, Fashion Director Avenue 32
Style Tip 2 – Capsule Wardrobe
A capsule wardrobe is a great building block to working on your seasons outfits. It is also comes in handy during holiday packing. Working from some core basics that you can accessorise with, layer up, build upon – is really key. A capsule collection contains the key trends for the season. Here’s my Spring/Summer 15 capsule pieces:

The shirt dress – easy to dress up or dress down. Style for the office with smart accessories and block colours. Or relax the look for the weekend with wedges, a denim jacket and chunky jewellery. Shirt Dress from Charlotte Ronson
Black and white is key this season – some well tailored black trousers will see you through the season. Keep the length cigarette style, very Audrey Hepburn and team with a gingham top – this seasons “print”.
Black bistro cropped trousers from Boden
White shirt will see you through the season. Blue and white is a key colour mix this season Take sea blues, sky blues, cobalt blues in blazers, leather jackets or pencil skirts – this will pack a colour punch with a crisp white shirt
White Shirt from La Redoute and Blue blazer from Wallis.
“Dressing for yourself is key. There’s no better way to express yourself than via your clothes and accessories”. Rosie Fortescue, At Fashion Forte
Style tip 3 – Invest in great pieces
Fashion changes so quickly. Trends come and go. If you invest in some core pieces such as a designer handbag (a classic style) or great black boots – you can build an outfit from this and remain stylish whilst adding seasonal trend pieces at lower value so that you can “be on trend” whenever you like. Core stalwarts in your wardrobe will provide a great base for adding trend pieces to and will be your fashion best friends. I’d love a Mulberry bag in a classic style, and classic colour – this will make my outfit always stand out no matter what season it is. Here are three great pairs of black boots to invest in that will see you from season to season.
- Laurence Dacade “Pete” Boots from Farfetch.com
- Valentino Rockstud Leather Booties from Saks Fifth Avenue
- Givenchy Rita Shark Tooth Knee Boots from Barneys
