Because I Am A Girl Campaign

At LadyMPresents, we’re big believers in giving something back, and supporting some truly brilliant causes. One of those causes is one we’d like to share with you, as it’s something very close to our hearts.

Plan’s Because I Am A Girl Campaign

Developed by the charity Plan International, ‘Because I Am A Girl’ is an incredible initiative which aims to help people see the amazing potential of girls, and the power that providing them with an education can give. Due to issues such as poverty, violence and discrimination, a shocking 1 in 3 girls worldwide is denied an education. Plan International are trying to change this through the ‘Because I Am A Girl’ campaign, and this year, October the 11th will herald the very first International Day of the Girl.

All Plan are asking people to do is to ‘raise their hands’ via the Facebook page for the campaign, requiring just one simple click of a button. This will achieve two things: raising awareness of the charity, and also adding your voice to a petition which will be taken to the UN. That’s all we and Plan are asking you to do, to support every girl’s right to an education. Watch the video below to see actress Freida Pinto talking about the amazing initiative:

As women in Britain today, it’s so easy to take our opportunities for granted, and not to think about how lucky we are. This campaign will help support four million girls to get an education, skills, and support which will break them out of the cycle of poverty. But the focus is on so much more than this, also nurturing these young women in their socialisation as part of the school experience. Remember, every girl has the right to an education, and we can all take a step to helping that happen, simply by clicking a button. ‘Because I Am A Girl’ represents everything that women should be: strong, intelligent, brave. With an education behind them, girls are less likely to experience violence, more likely to be literate, healthy and survive into adulthood, more likely to invest her income back into her family, community and country, and more likely to understand her rights and be a force for change.

Watch the video, ‘like’ the Facebook page, and find out more info on the Plan website. There you can find more opportunities for getting involved, as well as facts and figures which explain exactly why this campaign is so hugely important. One of the most moving parts of the site is the section of case studies, where you can read about girls who have had their lives directly improved by Plan, including Zimbabwean Yeukai Mugumba, who went from being a rural girl to a qualified lawyer through the help and support of her sponsor, who reached her via Plan. We’d really love for you to support this campaign, and all you need to do is Raise your Hand.
