Dressing for any occasion – The power of the dress
The Dress. The LBD, The LWD, Wedding Dress, Interview Dress, Date Dress. So many dresses, so many options. Well lets cover them off shall we. All in one place.
How many do you have in your wardrobe? Have you found your ultimate LBD? Have you braved the LWD (Little White Dress) trend – I haven’t, I’m far too clumsy. John Lewis is a fabulous place to shop a variety of styles and designers for the humble dress. I’m going to explore their offering this season under all of the categories above.. yes, even the Wedding Dress…. you don’t HAVE to spend a fortune on a bridal boutique dress you know. So here is my low down on how to shop for the ultimate dresses.
The LBD
I can’t possibly tell you how many Little Black Dresses I have tried on in my lifetime. It is such a hard piece to find and somehow I think there is too much expectation on the LBD being your “go to” dress, the essential. It could be one of many…
This L.K Bennett Aline Jewellery Dress is just a touch above the rest. Yes, it is a LBD but with a little added sparkle. An a-line dress with a nod to the embellishment trend this season, I love the decorated waistband. It’s a dress that will never go out of fashion and can be dressed up or dressed down, depending on your occasion.
The LWD
So the Little White Dress can be harder to find than it’s darker counterpart. Maybe only worn in summer with a tan. For me, it’s not a trend I will be sporting very much. Unless I invest in some stain remover! But it can really work. Lace is an obvious choice and this dress is a lovely summer piece, think bbqs and picnics, days at the beach. Team this Fenn Wright Manson Felice Dress with tanned wedges, big tortoiseshell sunglasses and chunky gold jewellery for a complete look
The Wedding Dress
Ok so this is not your traditional wedding dress. There’s no train, there’s no lace detailing and puffy capped sleeves. But this is quite possibly the perfect dress for a civil ceremony, a registry office or if you don’t want a really girly girl, bustling traditional wedding dress.
I really like the simplicity of this dress Hobbs Invitational Isolda Dress. The navy on ivory, the cinched in waist with navy ribbon. There is something beautifully romantic about it, with a floral overlay for a touch of elegance, team with a beautiful pair of heels, a single silver bracelet and wear an amazing bridal head piece in your hair and you will look sensational.
The Interview Dress
To make a statement and a lasting impression, work a bright bold dress into your office wardrobe. You won’t be forgotten in this Mango Snake Belt Pencil Dress in bright red. Accessorise simply. A black tote or shoulder black, low black heels and discreet silver jewellery. Let the dress do the talking and give you confidence as you step into your interview. You will wow them with your knowledge and the red will give you positive vibes.
The Date Dress
I love this French Connection Zoe Dress in Electric blue and black. It shows effortless style without giving off the impression you’ve been getting ready for hours and planned your outfit down to the very last detail (which of course you have). A bold statement, without being too “on trend”, a relaxed outfit that you can wear with your favourite heels, team with a neon pink clutch and wear with your hair up. He won’t be able to keep his eyes off you.
