Focus on Fashion: Kelly Ewing
Born in Glasgow and raised in Leeds, Fashion Designer Kelly Ewing has increasingly captivated the Northern fashion scene with her ever expanding collections.. The official launch of Kelly’s label, in 2008 captured interest from some of the North of England’s boutiques, who all jumped a the chance to stock her collection.
Kelly has always had a keen interest in fashion and began experimenting with fabric, design and tailoring from an early age. This led to a GNVQ at the Leeds College of Art and Design, followed by a BSc in Textile Design at the University of Huddersfield where Kelly began to fuse her talents in design and tailoring with a strong knowledge of fabric construction to develop her own signature aesthetic.
Spring/Summer 12 Collection
Drawing inspiration from Victorian aristocracy to pre-Raphaelite romanticism, Kelly’s collections feature well structured traditional pieces such as boned corsetry that are brought up to date with contemporary twists, clever pattern cutting and sharp tailoring. Vintage fabrics such as Harris tweed are generously pleated and draped to create a luxurious couture look, with a similar method of drapery that we saw at A/W12 from Corrie Nielsen at London Fashion Week. Kelly combines bright silk linings and soft handmade corsage detailing, a balance of contrasts.
