Get the party started: must have Christmas party shoe styles

Us women really do love party shoes. Whether it’s the pretty details, the delicate straps and finish or simply because they make our legs look so much longer and leaner, there is a certain ‘Je ne sais quoi’ about party shoes.

The special thing about this time of year is that despite freezing temperatures, snow, rain and wind outside, there are so many parties inside that we still get to enjoy dressing our feet up in party shoes. Whatever you plan on wearing this festive party season, from 1960s shift dresses to seventies style maxis, there are a pair of shoes to suit. Here we pick the best party shoe styles for the season. Strappy platforms

These seventies style shoes made a real impact on summer fashions this year. But they have managed to last the test of time, and weather too, as they are back for yet another season. The thick heel, platformed sole, ankle and toe-straps make these shoes incredibly flattering. They help to lengthen the leg and add just the right amount of ‘sexy’ with their open shape. Look for natural fabrics like leather and suede and match with rich autumnal colours of burgundy, mustard and burnt orange. If you want a more disco look, metallic colouring in gold or silver is a better option.

Peep-toe platform stilettos

The classic stiletto will never ever go out of fashion. There are a million and one ways to style it using colour, pattern, texture, embellishment and stylistic details. This season the stiletto has been given a platform and peep-toe styling. A whole range of patterns and materials are available from patent to snakeskin effect, so the choice really is yours. If you have to pick just one pair, look for those with shimmering, metallic effect and don’t be afraid to play with colour.

Lace-up shoeboot

Many thought the shoeboot was merely a fad, but it’s been around for over three years now and doesn’t look to be slinking off into oblivion any time soon. The shoeboot is perfect for winter as it covers your feet a little more and works with skirts and trousers. The lace-up, brogue style is everywhere this season. Suede is definitely the material of choice, but in terms of colour and pattern you have more flexibility from glitter and leopard print to bold colours of red, blue and gold.
