Get Zumba Fit – Classes in Kent

We long for the weekends here at LadyM Towers. It’s not that we don’t love our jobs, but we love two days straight of rest and recuperation; or normally shopping, fashion events, wine with friends. But how do you start your weekend?

We tried out Get Zumba Fit

Saturday mornings, what do you get up to? Watching TV on the sofa with a cup of tea? Hanging the washing out? Still in bed? A few weeks ago, at 11 am on a Saturday morning, I met up with our Beauty Editor, Amelia at LA Fitness in Tunbridge Wells to try out Zumba, the fitness craze that has been sweeping the nation.

I’ve wanted to try out Zumba for a while now, it’s such a popular exercise/activity but classes are always fully booked. Then I heard about the Get Zumba Fit class happening in the very gym that I spent most of my week in; LA Fitness Tunbridge Wells. Since Amelia was meeting me for a LMP Strategy session over coffee, I thought we’d get the creative juices flowing with some high adrenaline, fun fuelled exercise.

The fabulous Vicky Fright was taking our class and we’d been warned there was some “noise making” as well as fun exercise, we got changed, stretched out a bit and were excited about the class.

What is Zumba?

Zumba is a Colombian dance fitness program created by dancer and choreographer Alberto “Beto” Perez during the 1990s.

It’s a dance and fitness class that combines dance and aerobics together. With choreography that includes salsa, samba, hip-hop, merengue, reggaton.. the list goes on so many funky beats to dance and exercise to. According to Wikepedia, “There are 12 million people taking weekly Zumba classes in over 110,000 locations across more than 126 countries.”

Get Zumba Fit

Get Zumba Fit is run by the owner and experienced dancer, Trina and classes are available throughout the week. Our teacher for the day Vicky also runs a class in Bidborough.

We found our class really fun, It’s more a sense of dancing around your living room with friends than a hardcore exercise class. So you burn calories, without really noticing, and with a bit of laughing too! The mirrors put me off a bit to begin with, who wants to see themselves when they think they’re in the Rio carnival. But actually you get lost in the music and are too busy concentrating on picking up the moves than worrying about what other people are doing or what you look like.

The moves are really easy to pick up and if you don’t get them first time, the routines have repetition so you will get them next time. I thought it was a really great way to start the day, it sets you up for feeling fabulous for the rest of the weekend and you’ve burnt some calories.

Here’s what Beauty Ed, Amelia thought;

“I have to admit, I wasn’t exactly looking forward to zumba. I had a hangover threatening to consume my brain, a raging thirst building, and an inability to walk in a straight line, let alone do a high impact fitness class for an hour. I needn’t have worried. Despite feeling like a zombie walking into the room, Vicky, our instructor, soon perked me up. A bundle of energy and delightfully smiley, she soon had everyone in a great mood. The class itself was brilliant; a perfect balance of high impact routines and slightly slower paced ones, which allowed me to just about get my breath back. At the end of the session, I felt incredible: refreshed, full of energy, and in a fantastic mood. I’d recommend this class to anyone, regardless of your fitness level, as you can always take some bits easier. The atmosphere was informal and very fun. Two thumbs up!  Even on a hangover…” Amelia x
