Guest Blog: Amelia joins the LadyM Presents Team!

Well, hello there. I’m Amelia, and I’m the latest addition to the ‘Lady M Presents’ team. I’m going to be sharing my various ramblings with you in future, but for now I thought I’d take some time out from the frantic London Fashion Week preparations to introduce myself to you all.

So where to start? I’m something of a fashion obsessive, but I like to be creative with clothes. I enjoy dressing up, have far too many evening gowns for someone of the age of 23, a large collection of hats, and more shoes than should be legal. I also don’t have a wardrobe. A rail and the walls of my bedroom provide all the hanging space I need.

I’ll be telling you more about my style in future features – along with giving you a special peek inside my ‘wardrobe’, but for now, I’ll try to give you the rundown on what I look like. My years studying drama mean that I tend to ‘costume’ myself, rather than just dressing for the day. I usually start the day by wandering around my utter tip of a bedroom, pulling out items that reflect the way I feel for the day, or remind me of the film I watched the other week, or make me feel like a literary heroine.

Last week, for example, was the St Trinian’s + Boy George + Mary Kate Olsen look. How did this present itself? A straw boater, vintage striped blazer, shorts and shoe boots. My little personal codes and references might be utterly lost on the bunch of youths pointing and laughing at me on the High Street, but for me, it makes sense. And it makes me happy.

Ultimately, I believe that ‘making you happy’ is what fashion should achieve. Or making you dramatic, or tough, or glamorous. Dress to express what’s there inside of you. And gosh, it does sound horribly naff when I put it that way, but do give me a chance. Fashion – clothes –are armour, an outward signal to the world of exactly who you are, on that one particular day. My mission in life (and you’ll soon learn, I’m a great one for life missions) is to get women to have fun with what they wear. Learn to be daring. Be a pioneer of clothing. Boldly dress where no woman has dressed before.

Personally, I’ve explored, and messed around, experimented and come up with entirely bizarre combinations of clothing. I discovered that with each different style, I’d behave differently. Actually, more than that, I’d feel different. It’s all terrifically simple, but overlooked by a lot of people. In the next little while, I’ll be sharing with you my ideas on post-breakup dressing (clue: ratty dressing gowns will NOT feature), a walk-through of my most cherished clothes, a look at the idea of the ‘capsule wardrobe’, and of course, news from London Fashion Week. Watch this space…

Amelia will be reporting from London Fashion Week alongside LadyM as they discover whats on trend for Spring/Summer 12 and what the fashion world are wearing this Autumn.

You study drama? Wow, that is awesome.I have been interested in drama for so long a time. You mentioned that your years’ learning means that you tend to ‘costume’ yourself, rather than just dressing for the day. This is really an interesting saying and understanding. When I read the words you describe how you start the day, I get to know a little about your lovely life.
