Guest Blog: My Shoe Clutter Woes (and How I Fixed Them)

Shoe addiction is a serious problem. Not only can a pretty pair of peeptoes make you question whether the weekly food shop is strictly necessary, but if left unchecked, a shoe addiction can cause disarray in an otherwise presentable home.

My Shoe Clutter Woes (and How I Fixed Them)

Until the time arrives when I’m lucky enough to have a walk-in wardrobe rather than my current floordrobe, I’ve been required to take control of my burgeoning brood of brogues, loafers, wedges, heels and my multiple pairs of flip-flops in order to free up some space. I realised that when boxes of shoes stop you from wandering freely through your home – or living in it properly – it’s probably time to take action.

An upside to this recognition was the fact I got to engage in some very serious interiors shopping, mostly on my backside because, well, it was Sunday after all and my pyjama bottoms were staying on! I always feel very grown up when I buy furniture, particularly when it’s not from the local branch of Argos. So, after tearfully parting with most of the pretty shoe boxes that once housed my collection, I mused over the options online. Perusing screen upon screen of prim and practical hanging racks and shelves, I picked out a Wayfair shoe cabinet. Glorious and statuesque, it’s a piece of architecture entirely befitting the collection it homes. From the outside it’s a solid wood cabinet that gives not a clue of the gems within, a silent sturdy protector – a vanguard of style gazing over a now uncluttered carpet. I couldn’t be happier!

Of course, my own choice of shoe storage allows me to greedily keep the secret of my shoe hoarding to myself and keeps out prying eyes and fingers. You know what I mean – when the nephews visit, their hands seemingly in a perpetual state of stickiness, and they make a beeline for that glittery wedge. Of course, if you’re not afflicted with hyper little relatives, then another way to tackle the problem is to make a feature of your prized positions, displaying them proudly on shelving for all to see and admire. But that’s not for me, my beauties are mine, all mine.
