Now that summer is ever so slowly, yet surely, drawing to an end, the eyes of the fashion world are turning, pair by pair, toward all the major runways scattered across the globe.
Hot Jewellery Trends – NYFW Fall 2012
From NYC to Tokyo, Fashion Week season is about to start, and we’ve got a good debut already, with the inspiration brought to us some six months ago, at the New York ready-to-wear Fall Fashion week held last February. Since fall is right around the corner, we decided to glance back in time and go through a recap of the trends piloted there. Since most of us in the fashion-conscious set are currently planning our autumnal jewellery purchases, we wanted to see what the jewellery experts and big-league designers are likely to have gotten right, and in what respects they will prove to be famously wrong.
Oscar de la Renta
Famed celebrity designer Oscar de la Renta took a playful approach to his collection in February. While his biological age is approaching a venerable eighty (de la Renta was born in 1938), his runway was all about youth and whimsy. In a daring move, he had most of his models wear ribbons in their hair, as well as other types of headgear (including headbands that combined ribbons and crystals), for a fresh flair to a collection mostly geared toward the professional business woman. Like numerous other designers (see below), de la Renta also prominently featured blue, a hot colour this season, which you’re very likely to see on sale at your favorite sterling silver bracelets store, either online or off.
Anna Sui
In February, the Anna Sui catwalk was all about making statements in electric blue. Her models were decked in the noble aquamarine shade almost from head to toe, with dangling pendants gracing their collar bones. Semi-precious and precious gems such as royal sapphires were also prominently featured—a trend that has been partly confirmed by the summer 2012 wedding season.
Betsey Johnson
Fashion aficionados will already be well aware of Betsey Johnson’s propensity for high-drama, a high-fashion touch to her prêt-a-porter-wear, as well as concept items that are likely to bring a spark of dynamite to any outfit, no matter how otherwise ‘proper’ it may be. In February, the label heralded the season of psychedelic-inspired boho designs, come fall. The earrings were nearly burlesque and baroque oversized chandeliers, full of sparkle—haute bling in the truest sense of the word. As the models traipsed down the runway, the dangling earrings they donned almost brushed their shoulders, draped in somber colors, yet funky patterns.
Apparently, Fall 2012 is bound to be all about expressing a sense of tension and excitement (not to mention drama…) that has also had several clothes collection veer toward the unexpectedly over-the-top. Hair jewellery and retro, ‘roaring twenties’-influenced designs will be making a comeback this season, according to the designers. As the major chain stores for fast fashion are revealing their fall collections, what predictions will actually be confirmed—remains to be seen.
