We all have those moments of “What shall I wear today?” when we get up in the morning. Opening up the wardrobe doors leads to many decisions, Is it a skirt day? cigarette trouser day? dress day? wide-legged trousers day? Then there’s the tops, knitwear, accessories, and of course the shoes!
Last year when the Uniform Project met the challenge of 365 days of the same dress, worn in hundred of different ways, with gifted, thrifted, charity shop accessories – fashion inspiration was born. Now LadyM Presents has come across another creative concept – 30 for 30, the remixes.
30 for 30 – The Remixes
LadyM Presents was introduced to the fabulous Kendi Lea of style blog Kendi Everyday and her ingenious concept of 30 for 30 – remixing fashion with 30 items in 30 days. Kendi started her blog in December 2009 after following many style blogs and wanting to have her own voice in the community. “The inspiration behind it was easy, my life is the inspiration. I live in a small town where no one cares about style or fashion. Most of the people in my town are over the age of 60, so finding someone to share my ideas and outfits with was quite a challenge”. So Kendi decided to start a blog to share with others her “under-appreciated” outfits that she wears in her small town.
30 for 30 – The beginnings
Kendi explained that the concept of remixing thirty items in thirty days came about because she was looking for a way to stop shopping.
“There is a certain type of pressure (at least for me) when you style blog. I started feeling like I wasn’t good enough, that I didn’t have enough clothes, that I wasn’t stylish enough to keep up. I simply didn’t have the money any more to keep up with these feelings, so I decided that it had to stop”.
So the concept of 30 for 30 came from that thought, for Kendi its a creative mind game, a way to challenge herself and by posting her outfits on her blog she can see what outfit habits she has and it means she has to be inventive with her outfits for every photograph. So many times we hear of girls who have raided their wardrobes only to find that long lost amazing dress or a favourite pair of shoes, that find can bring as much joy as shopping and with a little reinvention, new outfits can be created.
Spreading the remixing word
Kendi set the challenge to the readers of her blog to see just how creative people can be. One such person who took up the challenge was Louise of Running on Anthro (a fellow lover of Anthropologie who has also converted LadyM!)

Louise writes an articulate, inspired blog on her progress with the 30 for 30 remixes. From the thought process behind selecting her thirty items, to how she puts her outfits together, Louise is embracing the remixing of her wardrobe with style and elegance. Her selection is a mix of Anthropologie, H&M, New Look, Zara and Asos, all can work together in neat combinations. Its early days yet for the challenge but Kendi and Louise show fantastic style and creativity and we wish them luck in this intriguing challenge.
“My hope really is that the 30 for 30 will help someone realize that enough really is enough. You can work with what you have and be stylish. A little creativity is the best accessory to every outfit.” Kendi Lea of Kendi Everyday

We interviewed Kendi Lea on the inspiration behind her style blog and where she sees it leading her:
Q: Where do you get inspiration for your blog posts and what do you like to write about?
A: I try to just write whatever I’m influenced by that day. Somedays are easier to write about than others. When I worked in an office, co-worker comments on some of my ensembles were always enjoyable commentary! But mostly I try to write as if I were talking to my best friend. Somedays it is serious, most days it’s not. Inspiration for my outfits usually come from other bloggers, magazine editorials or catalog layouts. Or some days I just know what I want to wear and I wear it. Those are my best outfits, usually.
Q: What is your day job and how do you see this blog developing?
A: I actually just quit my day job! I was in email marketing, though. I’m not sure how or where I see my blog developing. It started as just a hobby, really. As a creative outlet to get my mind away from my day job, so I never want to lose that factor of my creative endeavour. Whether it’s my full time job or not, I hope that Kendi Everyday is always a place that I can come at the end of the day and write what I want to write and post what I want to post. It’s my little happy place on the internet, that I hope never changes.
Q: Who are your favourite designers, labels, brands?
A: I know that as a style blogger I should have a favourite list of designers but — I don’t! I appreciate and respect the world of high fashion, but I don’t follow it too much. I am a mall-rat at heart so some of my favourite stores are Gap, J.Crew, Anthropologie and H&M. I would live in H&M if they would let me.
Q: Who else do you keep up with in the blogging world, social media for fashion and style news and ideas?
A: My style blog list grows by the minute it feels like! There are so many wonderful style blogs out there. It’s amazing to see normal girls with regular budgets doing their own thing. For style news, I follow The Cut blog and Refinery29. I can spend hours on Refinery29, it’s sick.
Q: How would you describe your own personal style and how do you think you will get on with 30 for 30?
A: I find it hard to describe my style but I’ll take a stab at it. I would hope that my style comes across as classic, eclectic and modern. I like to think that it does, anyways! This being my third time to take on my 30 for 30, I have found it a lot easier. I am getting better at picking out what to wear as well as planning outfits. The no shopping for 30 days is actually a nice break! The first time I took the challenge it was the hardest part, but I don’t give it a second thought now!
In a world of throw-away fashion, seasonal trends and cheap high street clothing, remixing your current wardrobe sees a change of track for the fashion arena. Its a challenge, requires some thought but its definitely an interesting concept for style. Keep up to date with how Kendi and Louise get on at their style blogs; Kendi Everyday and Running on Anthro.

Thanks for the feature, Rachel! And keep up the cuteness and remixing, Louise!
