Party season might all be about finding the perfect outfit, but what about the makeup? This season’s hot makeup trends can add even more glamour to your look.
Geraldine Shaker & Kitten Vixen
Geraldine Shaker, is a leading makeup artist to the Hollywood stars. Geraldine’s client list includes Sharon Stone, Kiera Knightley, Drew Barrymore, Teri Hatcher, Raquel Welch, as well as some of Hollywood’s hottest men including Bruce Willis, Vin Diesel and Sean Bean. She is also Founder and Creative Director of Kitten Vixen, the organic and cruelty free cosmetics range with a cult celebrity following in Los Angeles.
Kitten Vixen
Kitten Vixen cosmetics was launched in 2005. After applying makeup to women all over the world Geraldine realised a common theme that women had been conditioned to opt for taupe and neutral colours for fear of making a mistake or making themselves look cheap. “I wanted to create a brand that demystified the use of colour and show women the incredible impact that the correct use of colour has to the face”.
Geraldine started in the beauty industry at a young age. She trained at Vidal Sassoon for hair styling and The London College of Fashion for make-up. After working and teaching at Vidal Sassoon for seven years she was ready to launch her career as a freelance artist.
The Collection
Geraldine uses the models she works with to test all the shades she develops to make sure they are age and skin appropriate for everyone. Geraldine explains the process of development, “I work with the cosmetic developers to make sure we only use the cleanest ingredients that are not tested on animals and perform to the highest industry standards”. The lip glosses in the collection are vegan certified and the range is free from synthetic fragrance, flavours and colours. The range features universal beauty colours, custom blended to suit all skin tones regardless of age or ethnicity.
Makeup Trends
Make-up trends are totally aligned with fashion. Behind the scenes of every collection about to be launched at Fashion Week, is a team of make-up artists and hairdressers that have collaborated with the designers to come up with looks that will enhance the show. Geraldine explained that usually these trends are over the top, “they have to be because anything natural will fade in the lights of the stage”. From these collections the make-up trends are born and over the course of a few months are watered down to become wearable trends on the streets.
Party Season Makeup
Geraldine’s tips for the perfect party season makeup. “It’s the cat’s eye liquid liner, or if you can’t make it so precise opt for liquid liner smudged into the eye line, add a touch of clear gloss for a rock and roll edge. Nails are deep plum or very dark purple. Keep lips subtle when making the eyes the star!”
Spring/Summer 2011
The looks that came from the Spring/Summer 2011 collections took on a lot of intense bright colours and smiling models to turn our attention away from economic downturn. “This season gives a nod back to the seventies, with bright blues and green eye shadow taken right up to the brow line. Lips are vibrant too, in shades of red orange and fuchsia”.

I was one of the lucky winners of the Naughty Girl Navy kits.
I used it for the first time today. Loved the cute packaging, appreciated the pencil sharpener (as I’m always losing mine). Intrigued by the sponge applicator and thought that the whole package would be versatile to use.
However I found the pencil, hard and scratchy. I even warmed it up by rubbing it on the back of my hand. I may not be in the bloom of youth, but trying to apply the pencil was pulling my eyes, when I want to be as gentle as possible to retain as much youthfulness as possible. I even re sharpened it. The sharpener clogged up and the end of the pencil kept breaking off.
I gave up putting anymore on my eyes, so I took up the applicator sponge tool and tried to smudge the marks I had made on the back of my hand. Not a thing smudged or budged.
I think what product I have on my eyes will stay put for a while, because it took a lot of soap and scrubbing to remove the marks on the back of my hand.
So with perseverence I thought I’d give the mascara a go… now that I did like, small narrow brush, lovely colour, so very nearly black.
I shall continue to use the mascara, but will leave the pencil well alone.

I agree actually! I loved the mascara (I had magnetic moss) but couldn’t get a good result with the pencil. Although I never really got the hang of them before. Thanks for the review Yvonne
