Thursday means only one thing here at LadyM Presents. It’s time for the latest episode in our interview series, LadyM Connects. This week we chat to Yasemin Adam, an independent stylist for the fabulous accessories company Stella & Dot.
LadyM Connects with Yasemin Adam
Stella & Dot offer their boutique-style jewellery and accessories line exclusively through in-home Trunk Shows by Independent Stylists and online. Yasemin Adam is a Founding Leader for Stella & Dot in the UK, it’s an American company that has had much success across the pond. Recently Alice by Temperley have collaborated with Stella & Dot with an amazing accessories collection.
Lets sit down with a cuppa and chat fashion accessories with Yasemin;
Q When did you first start working in the fashion/accessories industry?
A. I studied Fashion at Art College and started working within the industry straight away back in 1986!
Q. What encouraged you to get into this industry and what was your route into it?
A. I always loved fashion so when I ended up studying it for my degree I met a lot of people within the industry, which then helped me to get a job afterwards.

Q. What is a typical working day for you?
A. The beauty of my job now is that my working day revolves totally around my family life. So term time days and holiday days are very different. During term time I’ll either be working from home or out meeting prospective Hostesses and Stylists or out styling at a show whilst the children are at school. I do this a couple of evenings a week too. It changes in the holidays….office work tends to happen first thing in the morning and after the children have gone to bed…..and meeting people or styling at shows tends to happen more in the evenings. I love the flexibility!
Q. What do you love the most about working for a fashion accessories label?
A. I get to wear the jewellery……and share it!
Q. Where are you based, how much of an inspiration is your city and what are your favourite cities around the world?
A. I’m based in a small village in East Sussex surrounded by countryside, which I love for the kids (and my dog walks)…..but I still absolutely LOVE London, where I went to art college and spent half of my adult life. I also like Milan….and its little hidden courtyards…..and Istanbul because it’s sooooo exciting and really is where East meets West!
Q. How would you sum up what you do in one sentence?
A. I style people with our gorgeous jewellery and I also coach and mentor an amazing group of women to do the same.
Q. Who would you love to see wearing Stella & Dot jewellery?
A. Rachel Weisz, Helen Mirren and Kate Middleton……and from the past Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn!
Q. Have you seen the fashion industry or change in the last few years, have you had to adapt?
A. Yes – people seem to be enjoying social shopping again…..like they did in the 50s. It’s much more fun…..and very Stella & Dot!
Q. What’s the most rewarding part of your work? What is your greatest accomplishment so far?
A. The most rewarding part is putting a piece of jewellery on someone who wouldn’t have even looked at it in a shop….but then absolutely falls in love with it. I also get really excited sharing this amazing opportunity with other women and watching it transform their lives.
Q. What is next for yourself and Stella & Dot ? What are your goals for 2012/13?
A. To Style as many women as I can in the UK…and to introduce the Business Opportunity too!

Q. if you didn’t do the job you do now – what would be your dream job and where?
A. This IS my dream job…..but I wouldn’t mind doing it in a place where we had a guaranteed Summer…with sun!
