Q. When did you first start designing footwear? What was the inspiration for those early pieces?
I started in 2009 and was heavily inspired by British events and places at the time.
Q. What encouraged you to get into this industry and what was your route into it?
I studied fashion at the Fashion Retail Academy and London College of Fashion whilst there, I also worked at Topshop and Harrods.
Q. What is a typical working day for you?
Replying to emails first thing with a cup of earl grey tea, then usually start tackling a big long list of things to get on with. If it’s during term time I have to go to lectures and seminars and I usually pop by the warehouse as well. I’m currently studying Business Management at Westminster University.
Q. Where can we see your collection and buy the fabulous shoes?
Online at www.yull.co.uk and also through selected independent retailers throughout the UK and Europe.
Q. Where are you based, how much of an inspiration is your city and what are your favourite cities around the world?
I am based in London most of the time as I am still studying there. However when I can, I escape to the Cotswolds which is where I’m from. I get so much inspiration from both of my hometowns. I am very lucky to come from such a beautiful place in England, shoes have been named Cornbury and Blenheim through my inspiration of the Cotswolds.
Q. How would you sum up the world of Fashion Design in one sentence?
Competitive.
Q. Have you seen the fashion industry or change in the last few years, have you had to adapt?
I am glad that businesses are moving back to producing in the UK. I like to think that I was ahead of the game in that field.
Q. What’s the most rewarding part of your work? What is your greatest accomplishment so far?
Being able to enjoy my own shoes! I finally find it easy to find a pair that fit!
Q) What is next for Yull ? What are your goals for 2012/13?
Yull will be exhibiting at the Kensington Shoe event in September with the S/S collection and also be at a new trade show Best of Britannia in Farringdon, London
