Every woman is proud to own the LBD or the little black dress. The dress originally designed by the eminent Coco Chanel has turned 80 years now and still is the most wanted dress. When this dress was created by Chanel, the LBD had created a stir in women’s fashion world and since then the dress hasn’t lost its popularity. It is interesting to note that the polarity of this dress is such that it enjoys a presence in the New Oxford Dictionary and a page dedicated to it by Wikipedia.

The little black dress is a combination of the simple and the chic and hence retains its popularity in the heart of women through the ages. The LBD as it is popularly nicknamed is the perfect choice for women to look elegant and avoid any sort of fashion faux pas. In fact, the LBD is such a versatile dress that it can be worn in any occasion and it can be dressed up or dressed down with accessories to create various great looks.

Until the 1920s, elegant fashion meant clothes with heavy and uncomfortable designs. But Chanel’s LBD revolutionized fashion for women. The Little Black dress can be worn easily and with minimum accessories. The initial LBD was knee length, high neckline, without buttons and embroidery made of crepe. The color obviously was black.

Audrey Hepburn has been shot with various types of LBDs in her film career making it even more adorable. Books have been written on the little black dress and exhibitions have been devoted to it. It has reached the status of being an iconic dress.

Kylie Minogue and Elizabeth Hurley have often been spotted wearing the little black dress. Karl Lagerfield, artistic director of Chanel attributes the enduring success of LBD to the fact that you can never be underdressed or overdressed with an LBD. The Little Black Dress is a constant in any woman’s wardrobe and there is even a store named after it in Canada. The dress lasts long and you can always trust the LBD because you will never go wrong with it.
