London Fashion Week September 2011: Day 2

With London Fashion Week S/S12 well underway, LadyM popped into BBC Radio Kent to talk about the trends seen on day one, the atmosphere of LFW and what the trends are for this Autumn/Winter. Then it was time to get back to Somerset House for the next instalment of Spring/Summer shows.

Day 2: London Fashion Week S/S12

Early on Saturday morning at Somerset House, the fashionistas turned up, weary eyed, slightly hanging from the previous nights after parties but ready for a good show. First up was DAKS. The scene was set for a 1960′s nautical concept collection. Charming home videos of days out by the sea were accompanied by Mad Men/ The Hour inspired illustrations and opening music.

The DAKS S/S collection felt fresh, summery and inviting with 1960′s style housewife shirt dresses and shifts in white. Moving on to checked print twill playsuit, sleeveless shell tops and shorts. The love for the palazzo pant was back in a very 60′s style white halterneck, palazzo pant play jumpsuit. Before a movement onto warm plum lightweight knitwear, by the pool zipped coverups and a white wrap shirt with plum palazzo pants. The collection felt inviting, intriguing and had a soft take on nautical themes with a subtle touch of red and blue in with the white mix without all the stripes and polkadots that we’re used to. A fabulous collection all round.

Other exciting shows of day two were from Clements Ribeiro, with bright paisley prints and block colour tops, mixing coral, white and baby blue with a lot of lace detailing and a few art deco prints thrown in. We also loved Emilio de la Morena’s feminine and sophisticated collection, with full flowing sheer skirts, just above the knee teamed with block colour tops in royal blue, canary yellow and white. White is very much the colour of the season, brought out by a few detailed embellishments or through accessorising in bright, summer colours. House of Holland was also a delightful collection. Bright, sweet and vibrant for the summer months. With pastel shirt dresses in harlequin style cross colours, pale jeans worn with braces over sheer chiffon blouses with a taste of peach and bubblegum purple tartan thrown into the mix.

IBP’s Inspiring Diversity Fashion Show

When the fashion week invites start flooding the inbox (no more hard work for Postman Pat) one that caught our eye and was an immediate RSVP was the Inspired By People Inspiring Diversity Fashion Show. Sponsored by Amway on Saturday 17th September the Amway UK Flagship Experience Centre in Holborn was transformed for the debut Inspiting Diveristy Charity Fashion Show. We were so excited to attend as our favourite designer here at LadyM Towers, Z-Mode was showing at the evennt. The event’s aim was to raise money for various causes supported by the UK based charity, Inspired by People and Amway’s ‘One by One’ Campaign as well as showcasing up and coming designers during London’s Fashion Week.

We were welcomed by the fabulous ladies at Amway with a glass of champagne and a mini makeover and LadyM and fellow bloggers Adela Cechova from Adela Style File and Michaela Hoyte of Fashion 3105 drank champagne and talked fashion before the shows began.

We were super excited about seeing the latest collection from Z-Mode designer Victoria Rangayah following her winning entry to the Brand Alley Black Evening Dress competition. It was lovely to chat with Victoria and see what was new and where her inspiration came from and she also dressed Zoe Hardman our host for the evening in a gold Julie Dress.

So the evening began with introductions from Zoe, whose sense of humour and fabulously good looks engaged the audience, as well as her skyscraper salmon pink heels. The catwalk was an eye-catching affair featuring collections from all over the world, unveiling collections from five innovative designers.
