So it’s still relatively cold outside, even though it hasn’t really snowed yet this Winter. The days are long and there’s not much thats inspiring us about the weather. We really love Spring and Summer much more; for the opportunities it brings, the sunshine, long days and for us, better style choices.
So we take a look ahead to the key SS13 trends courtesy of UK high street giant, Next.
Spring/Summer 13
At London Fashion Week SS13 we saw some of our favourite collections yet. We took a trip to the jungle with Issa London with floral prints and hot yellows and tangerine orange. Whilst PPQ took us along the French Riviera for a coffee and croissant with bold breton stripes, 60′s psychedelic prints and wide brimmed hats.
Next hit the nail on the head with perfect cobalt blue seen across the LFW catwalks and a twist of floral print.
- V Neck Sweater £25 & Floral Pencil Skirt £35
- Cobalt Blue Capri Trousers £38
Another trend we loved this season mixes well together. Louis Vuitton focuses on monochrome 1960′s style checks in black and white and yellow and white. Whilst DAKS brought us simple minimalistic tailoring that we know Next do well.
- Button Back Soft Striped Shirt £25 & Boot Cut Trousers £20
- Stripe Jacket £50 & Smart Tailored Trousers £38
Tran-seasonal Staples
Tran-seasonal is another way of saying.. perfect for whenever, wherever, whatever. A piece that can take you from season to season. For us it’s the cropped leather jacket, grey marl tee, a colour block clutch and chunky necklace. They can basically all go together first of all. But they work well with a whole range of things in your wardrobe.
A cropped leather jacket (usually in black) can give you the basis of a relaxed weekend shopping outfit, to a smart jacket over a little black dress for cocktail hour. We even like it with capri trousers and a colour block top for a business meeting.
- PU Biker Jacket £55
A grey marl teeshirt will get you through from summer to winter. Short sleeved, (usually with a Parisian chic print for us). Wear with skinny jeans, under a colourful v neck sweater or shorts on a summer day.
- Short Sleeve Club T-Shirt £12
Colour blocking is the way forward, still. This is one way to make sure you have colour with you but if you’re a little shy of wearing it – then accessorise with it!
- Fluro Clutch £22
A chunky necklace can really make an outfit. Dress up a plain dress, wear over a teeshirt, or pack a punch in the office by livening up your office look.
- Aqua Statement Necklace £20
Leather and Sequins
For Autumn/Winter we saw a lot of leather on the catwalk and as we’ve said above, it’s a great staple to see you through season to season. But what about sequins? Well as Beauty Editor Amelia has said before “sequins should be for the everyday”. She loves a bit of sparkle and doesn’t like to just keep them for night time. Of course we’re not condoning wearing a sequin shift dress to the office, but a little bit of sequin in your day to day life can really work. Here are two looks that incorporate the subtle ways you can sparkle during the day time without being too OTT!
- 2 in 1 sequin dress £60
- Sparkle Tape Vest £28
