Indian skin tones mostly fall in the warm shades. We can find huge array of shades ranging from very fair to dark skin tones. Usually the large array of skin tones and different undertones create problems in selecting eye make up. While there are many options for each of us, we just need to try and choose our makeup wisely. So here are a few suggestions:

Clear glowing skin

Make up looks better when you have clear glowing skin. For this, a good skincare routine is necessary which includes cleansing, toning and moisturizing. Also make sure, you drink lots of water to keep the skin radiant.

First step: Foundation:

Foundation if chosen wisely can save one’s day. So while choosing the foundation, keep in mind that you need a shade which is identical to your natural skin tone. Do not think of buying a lighter shade, it only makes you look ghastly. If you have oily skin, stay away from oil based products, use primer to keep your face oil free and choose a good water based foundation. Usually Indian skin tends to be sweaty and oily so those with oily skin should choose liquid and foundations which will help keep the foundation longer. The best option though is to use powder foundation as it will absorb the oils and keep the skin oil free. Women with dry skin are better off using crème and liquid foundations. Indian skin tends to be wheatish and the shades closest to these matches Indian skin tones perfectly. Usually there is a strong yellow undertone in Indian skin which is why Indian foundations need a lot of shades with yellow undertones. Though pink undertones are also found the no of people with yellowish undertones are far more than pink under toned ladies.

Second step: The powder

Indian climate is basically hot due to which there is the problem of sweating and melting of the makeup. So you need a powder to set your makeup or to touch up. Always choose a powder similar to your foundation and apply it over the areas which need to be retouched.

Third step: The eyes

Use primers before applying eye makeup as Indian skin is sometimes oily and there are chances that the lids are oily too. Indians have beautiful eyes which is the main highlight of their face. So use kohl and liners to further accentuate the face. Use colored liners as well as traditional black kohl. Also Indian skin tones usually look good with copper, gold, brown, burgundy shades as well as dark blue, purple, wine and green. Glitter is not a good option for those with darker skin tones. If you have small eyes, use kohl from the outer half of the lower lash line to make the eyes look bigger. Use a nude eye pencil to line the inner rim of the eyes to make them appear bigger and awake. Also use loads of mascara.

Fourth step: The lips

Indian skin tones look great with wine shades, berry shades, reds, plums, pink and apricot shades. While choosing browns, keep in mind that they tend to make the teeth appear darker. Maroon, tanned, beige and coffee shades go well with tanned lips.

Last step: Blush and Contouring

Indian skin hardly needs a blush and looks better with bronzers. The Indian skin tones look great with bronzed cheeks and contours, so prefer a bronzer over blusher. But if you really need one use coral or rose tones. Peach tones don’t usually look good on Indian skin tones. For those with darker skin use dark rose shades as blush.
