It may be still a little nippy outside but those damn designers are making us think it’s spring. Hello prints! This season, acid prints are everywhere from the high street to haute couture. And about time too.
Fashion: Prints Vs Pastel Princess
Yes, we’ve had the colour blocking but get that wrong and you end up looking more carrot than super hot and that’s never good. This time around, you’ll be pleased to hear it’s so much easier and is nowhere near as complicated as the patterns look. Adding a flash of something patterned and punchy to your favourite jeans or an all black canvas will ease you in gently and before you know it, you’ll be rocking the clashing prints head to toe.
The Prints
The most exciting news I’ve heard in a long time is the pairing of Topshop and Mary Katrantzou, the lady pretty much responsible for all those clashing colours you can see appearing in stores. Getting your paws on a designer creation (whose main line generally retails in the thousands) at a snip of the price will be well worth it, although I doubt they will be in stock long – especially the bucket cut dress. Oh yes, and she also has a bag range for Longchamp if you don’t fancy battling the Topshop crowds.
The Pastel Princesses
In the equally colourful, but slightly more understated corner (or catwalk), pastel princesses are also battling for our attention. I’m not sure if this is a Kate Middleton influence, but suddenly demure and dainty is looking good. Check out Louis Vuitton‘s sinfully sweet macaroon colours, prim collars and lacy details. Want more pastels for less pennies? H & M have a great range of sweaters, which will work amazingly well with their midi pleated skirts.
This influence is even seeping into your hair as candy-floss colours are adorning heads everywhere I look. Blondes look great with pink, blue or green, but keep it pale.
You’re not aiming to look like you’ve been using your granny’s hairdresser, or had a bucket of paint fall on your head. Brunettes look great with tangerine tones mixed in with their own. So, keep your jackets boxy and structured, and your handbags sugar spun with a handle and clasp and you will have this look nailed. Prince Charming, optional.
Prints or Princess – it’s down to you, but whichever you choose spring ’12 is set to be a colourful one.
