Anyone who knows me, will know I have big, thick hair. Often people say they’d love to have it, wanting to swap their thin locks. But they really wouldn’t. I’ve had a tough time with my hair, it doesn’t hold curls, it doesn’t take colour. It is thick, course and has a mind of its own.
My hair stylist Matthew of Happy Hair does his best to tame it and over the years I have learnt what works and what doesn’t. So when the fabulous UK hairstylist John Frieda® launches a new range called Full Repair™ with the aim to “transform overworked hair without sacrificing style”, I think this might be a worth a try out.
John Frieda® Full Repair™ Haircare range
In delightful and glossy looking red packaging, a nice bundle of haircare joy arrived from the PR company. As someone who blow-dries their hair every other day, straightens it to an inch of its life and whacks it up into a ponytail for the gym – my hair is crying out for some pampering!
Here’s the background from John Frieda® on the range:
John Frieda® Full Repair™ is our first haircare range to deliver a targeted solution for damaged, overworked hair that requires repair without scarifying style. The Full Repair™ haircare line includes a range of care and styling products that instantly transforms and repairs the look and feel of overworked hair to create a full-bodied, healthy looking style with natural movement. Your hair will get its mojo back!
OK so with that in mind, I was raring to try out these products and let my hair get its mojo back! The secret behind these products is the latest ingredient to hail deep from the Amazon rainforest – Inca Inchi Oil. A natural oil that grows in a star-shaped fruit, rich in Omegas-3 and -6 and it has great restorative properties that help to create shiny, silky hair. You can read more about the Inca Inchi Oil story here.
John Frieda® Full Repair™ Full Body Shampoo
First up was the Full Body shampoo, initially I’m a bit put off by the name, trust me, my hair doesn’t need any more body. But this isn’t about volumising, it’s about restoring the hair so that it looks better, boosts the body of it and gives a great style.
I was really impressed with this shampoo, I thought it might have been a bit heavy but it gave a really good foam when mixed with water and smelt amazing.
John Frieda® Full Repair™ Deep Conditioner
As well as having the Full Body Conditioner, I decided to use that in the future and instead give my hair what it really needed, a deep condition. The Deep Conditioner comes in a pot with a screw lid and sadly this meant that when I scooped the product out to put on my hair, I did lose a fair bit down the plughole. On my next attempt I tried to be more careful but I still lost some of the product over the side of the pot – my recommendation would be to put in a regular squeezy bottle for ease of application.
I left the product on my hair (mostly the lower half) for four minutes (two to five is recommended) and the Inca Inchi Oil did its stuff. I’m always a bit hesitant about deep conditioners and them leaving my hair greasy, heavy and lacking life. But this one worked a treat in repairing my over-styled hair and it felt great afterwards!
John Frieda® Full Repair™ Perfect Ends Sheer Mist & Deep Infusion
Next up came the blow-drying and styling. I hate drying my hair, it takes a long time and often leaves it in a puffy mess. But these two products helped ease the pain and I was actually really surprised that they didn’t leave my hair oily and in need of another wash. I sprayed on the Perfect Ends Sheer Mist, which is a heat-activated styling spray aiming to improve manageability of hair as well as giving a long-lasting hold to your style. My hair actually felt a lot lighter after spraying this and drying my hair, leaving a really good finish.
Something I haven’t used before is anything for the ends of my hair, the Deep Infusion gel is all about restoring and repairing your hair, helping against breakage and nourishing those ends. You only need one pump from the tube and to use sparingly but for a first attempt it seemed to lock in moisture to my ends well. I was surprised at how light my hair felt and it’s great that they provide protection from high-heat (since I’m addicted to my hair straighteners!).
Other products in the salon inspired range include Full Body Conditioner, Protecting Root Lift Foam and Touch-Up Flyaway Tamer.
It makes for a great collection of products and since there has been such a focus on Moroccan Oil in hair care products recently, I think now is the time to move on and take a look at the healing properties of Inca Inchi Oil!

re> full repair, it made my fine textured lightened hair feel heavy and it looked and felt greasy a day after using it.
Hi Sallly – possibly just not suited to your hair. I have the same issue with quite a few other products on the market these days – takes a while to find the perfect ones
