Revlon ColourBurst Lip Butters have been gaining a lot of momentum in the beauty world lately, promising hydration, colour, and a masterful texture. I set out to discover whether this cult product lived up to the hype…
Revlon ColourBurst Lip Butter
For months now, I’ve been eschewing the Lip Butters with a firm hand. I’ve been sizing them up every time I’ve spotted them, but I’ve managed to resist. Why? Because I’ve got a box full of lip related paraphernalia, and I promised myself a makeup detox. Everything from balms and glosses to every shade of lipstick (including a highly ill-advised ghastly frosted orange colour). Oh, but I wanted a Lip Butter. I ached for one. Every beauty blog I read posted on them, with phrases such as ‘HOLY GRAIL’ and ‘I bought one in EVERY COLOUR’ floating around all over the place. But no, NO, I was determined to stand firm.
The reason that I have so many lip products is because I’ve never found anything that completely works. I have various bright, matte lipsticks which all dry my lips out to a Sahara-like state. Glosses really aren’t my thing; much too irritating, and too…well, glossy. Balms? Great, but not something I’d wear on an evening out. Finally, something had to give, and Revlon sent me two of the Lip Butters in berry shades; Raspberry Pie and Berry Smoothie. I was determined not to like them, not to be impressed, because I didn’t have any room in my hurt for yet another lip product that was going to let me down.
But oh…it was love at first slick. DAMN. Firstly, this stuff is smoother than James Bond in a tux on a yacht surrounded by scantily clad women. Usually, that kind of smoothness means a poor colour trade off, and I was worried that it would either look patchy or just simply not give any depth of colour. I was so, so wrong. One coat and I had the perfect daytime lip, slightly sheeny but certainly not glossy, and with the most supremely brilliant texture. It hydrated my lips as opposed to drying them out, and if I wanted more of an evening look, I could pop on a couple more layers. If I may, I’d like to call it a bit of a revelation. This one product did the job that hundreds of my other lip products couldn’t. A brilliant all-rounder, I’m absolutely charmed.
So what makes it so brilliant? Firstly, a mix of mango, shea and coconut butter ‘boosts lip moisture by 156%’. Thanks to the formula, application is really easy, and the product feels light and soft. And, it comes in 20 shades! As it’s party season, I really love the idea that I could just pop one of these bad boys in my inevitably tiny bag, and use it during the day for meetings and work things, and then apply a little more before heading out. I’d recommend Berry Smoothie as a go to daytime colour, and Raspberry Pie is definitely a little more vampy.
From 21st November, Revlon are opening up their ‘Sweet Boutique‘ via their Facebook page. They’ll be giving 100 Lip Butters away every day until the 4th December, so give it a whirl. If you’re not lucky, just pick one up from Boots! You won’t regret it, promise.
