We have another exciting event to tell you about that is happening this week! London is the capital of Fashion and some of the capital’s top fashion designers will teach an audience of clothes lovers the secrets of the simple needle and thread at the launch of a new initiative to get London sewing.
Sew it Forward – Re-create your wardrobe
Style gurus, including award winning designers Henrietta Ludgate and Nicola Woods (Beautiful Soul) will share their top stitching tips at the unveiling of the Sew It Forward project, which aims to encourage people to pass on their sewing skills. We’re not fabulous with a needle and thread but this sounds really inspiring.
Sew It Forward is the brainchild of Zoe Robinson, of sustainable fashion hub www.thegoodwardrobe.com. She said the launch will show people that sewing is a great way to extend the life of your wardrobe – and have fun and save money at the same time. It’s your turn to get a bit creative and express yourself through rejuvenating your wardrobe.
“We’ve got some incredibly talented designers and makers at the launch to teach guests how to sew, knit, darn or mend and those guests who learn a new skill will pledge to ‘Sew It Forward’ helping spread the skill across the city” Zoe Robinson.
“This is just the beginning of what we hope will be a huge new movement in sustainable fashion.”
The Sew It Forward launch will take place at Henrietta Ludgate’s Workshop in Whitely’s Shopping Centre in Bayswater, London.
Designer Henrietta said: “The Sew it Forward project makes me think of the Christmas of my childhood: my Grandmother knitting by the open fire, making our presents with love and attention to detail. “An utterly fantastic idea that brings people together and teaches them the basics in the timeless craft of sewing – I can’t wait to see what is created.”
The invite only party kicks off at 6pm on November 22 with support from environmentally friendly cleaning products manufacturer Ecover and sustainable caterers Squid and Pear. If you don’t have an invite heading your way – have no fear, you can download the Sew It Forward voucher (after the 23rd November) or pledge to support the campaign and share your skills on the new website www.thegoodwardrobe.com.
A great way to spend time with friends or family and perfect for a sustainable, thrifty, money-saving Christmas.
